I have a veggie spread here that says it has 7g of fat and 15 cals per tablespoon. Not possible if 1g of fat has 9 cals. Grrr. Misinformation! The ingredients are basically pureed peppers and some oil.
I hate that too and it's way too common. I'd contact the manufacturer and give them a heads up that their label is incorrect. Maybe they'll have updated info for you?
It is possible, that it is an indigestible fat. Honestly not sure on that..but I do know that there are some indigestible carbs, that they list as carbs on the label, but the calorie numbers dont add up. One of the vitamin drinks is where I noticed it, and I promptly went to look it up.
"Indigestible carbs" means insoluble fiber, which is good and healthy for your system (soluble fiber is somewhat digestible, so is usually counted). The only "indigestible fat" I know of is Olestra, and it tends to cause intestinal problems. ANY indigestible fat would cause intestinal problems because if it can't be digested, it will travel through your intestines, and if you really lube up your intestines . . . .problems!
My best guess is that it's 2 grams and a typist misread it as a 7.
There was one time I ate a packaged airline snack that had a really ridiculous typo along these lines--wish I saved it. The number of grams of carbs or fat listed (I forget which) was several times greater than the entire weight of the package!
