So I stumbled upon this website via good 'ol Google last night. As I was looking around, it seems like a great place where girls can talk and vent. So woo-hoo, I became a member!
I have always battled w/ weight. I have always been the "larger" girl. When I was in middle school and high school I really started to pack on the weight. I didn't play any sports and god forbid me doing any gym class activities. I had my nose in a book and was a total geek.
At the age of 17 I hit a turn for the worse, in more ways that one, but I packed on a lot of pounds. I had a traumatic brain injury and was wheelchair/can bound for several months. I lived with Mom, I wasn't driving. I did therapy 5 days a week. I was on several medications as well. Blood pressure medication being one of them. I topped the scale at 310 in 2005.
Slowly again I got to where I could walk, do some light exercises, drive, etc. But still I wasn't eating well. In late 2006 I started seeing just my regular family Dr. I would go to her every couple of weeks to talk. She adjusted my depression meds, tried me on a diabetic medication (which she said was supposed to assist w/ weight loss). She had me keep a diet journal and not exceed 1600 calories a day. I wasn't exercising, I was just simply chaing the way I ate.
In a little over a year, I lost 75lbs. I briefly squeezed in to a size 16 jeans. I was in college at that point, and I had just entered into the Occupational Therapy Program. I spent 8hrs. a day, 5 days a week, at a table in a classroom. It had a full kitchen complete w/ oven, fridge and all. Of course I gained some of it back. I went back up to 250. A lot of my other classmates gained weight as well. We were always eating b/c it was available and we were stressed out.
I still keep a journal, and I still eat well. Granted I'm not perfect, no one is. I go out to eat 2x a week (I am trying really hard not to do that, but so far my attempts have failed). I try to make healthy choices. I even have applications on my Iphone that gives you info on food choices at restaurants. I eat 3 good meals a day and 2 good snacks, try to eat every 3-4 hours (though w/ my job it's hard to stop until lunch time). I have hit a plateau. I joined a gym in March. I go the M-W-F, some Saturdays and Sundays. I have a personal trainer on W. I had a man at first, who wasn't having me do much but lift weights for 30mins. I was seeing no success. So I got a different one and she's better. She has me run stairs, laps around a track, treadmill, octane, bike, as well as lift weights. I have lost 10lbs. since March. Still w/ very little success. But when she weighs me in it says my BMI is going down, water intake is up... I am having good results. Small, but good.
I just happened to stumble across this site. But looking over it I hope that I can find some good info, support, and tips from all of you fabulous people!

) and because I lived in Louisville for a large part of my childhood, and my sister and her family still live there. It's a beautiful place.
