I have a question and I don't know where to post it

  • I am wondering if any of you who have successfully lost weight had the operation afterwards to get rid of the excess skin?I am wondering how big the scar is and how painful it was.I lost 135 pounds before but I still wasnt happy with the extra skin but I get nauseaus(spelling) at the sight of needles, blood, etc. LOL
  • Congrats on losing 135 lbs. !! I hope someone can answer your question.
  • Hi Earthy,
Sickeningly enough I gained 75 pounds of it back in 2 years. So here I am again trying to lose it but this time I am not going back.I wished someone would answer my question because if it werent too bad I may consider it when I hit my goal weight and maintain it for a while. Thank you for answering me ...I really appreciate the thought.

  • Angie,

Check under the General Diet Plan section, there is a topic there that talks about what you are looking for. Good luck to you.

  • I couldn't find that post huntress mentioned, but I do remember reading one a while back somewhere ...

What I have heard from women who do strength training is that they are eventually able to get their skin tightened up eventually. Now, what eventually means I don't know, and how much weight lifting they did I don't know.

At any rate, I think two things would be prudent before going under the knife: (1) Try strength training if you don't do it already. I know "they" say spot reducing doesn't work -- it's not spot reducing, though, it's muscle toning and has many benefits, including just making your overall shape look nicer. Time is your friend in this area. Plus I think that continuing to get plenty of water would help keep your skin hydrated. There's no magic cream, but basic skin care (moisturizers when needed) are probably helpful to some small extent. And (2) I would think it would be smart to maintain your goal weight for a while before you even consider the surgery. Obviously, you don't want to think of yourself gaining all that weight again, but it's happened before. Can you imagine going through surgery and then gaining 80 pounds? Then you'd really be upset at yourself! The longer you can maintain your ideal weight, the better your chance of keeping it off.

If you can maintain your weight for a few years, and in the meantime keep up with your exercise efforts, you could then re-evaluate your thoughts about surgery. You can also use that time to put aside some money for the surgery -- or even better, if you opt not to have surgery, you can then use it for a fabulous vacation!

    Good luck!

    Hope this helps.
  • Hi

I don't know about the surgery, but I do agree that strength training is very helpful. I also find the fitness training on the cardio machines helps... especially the cross-trainer but I personally find the treadmill helpful too... but I dance and exercise while on it so get a total workout. Strength training does not need to be with heavy weights... in fact unless you want to get muscular lighter is better in my opinion. But I definitely recommend it.
