new here looking for some friends

  • Hi everyone. So, I am new to this website and obviously the 30something forum. I have spent the last few days reading forms and I think this is where I belong.

What i am looking for is a group of people or even just one person in somewhat the same situation as me that I can talk to on here in order to get and give support. So, let me share a little bit about myself:

I am 31 years old and single (blah!), I have 2 kids (boys ages 13 and 4). I was thin until i turned 17 and got pregnant, after my son was born I couldn't get back into a 3 or 5 to save my life. I ended up at a 7 then it crept up for 8 years and when I got pregnant with my second son in 2005 i was wearing a 10/12 and weighed 167lbs. I am 5'2" by the way. So now my youngest is 4 and I somehow weigh 198lbs and wear a sz 14 (some brands 15 or 16) jeans. Lane bryant 14s are perfect.

Anyhow, i have been wanting to lose weight since last summer but didn't start trying until January. Even then I didn't try too hard. In November 2009 I weighed 218lb, yikes. Today I weigh 198. My ideal weight (according to all those calculators) is like 120. WTH? 78lbs to lose. I would be perfectly happy at 145 to be honest. Right now I am categorized as obese. I take BP and cholesterol meds bc they were both getting a little too high. Short term: I want to get out of obese which for me means weighing 163lbs. I also want to get off of these medications.

I am not following any particular program right now, just cutting calories and trying to get in more exercise. I have joined a weigh loss challenge class through my parks and rec department. It starts next Wednesday and I don't rally know what it's all about but I am pretty excited, cash prizes after 12 weeks!!

So, is anyone in a similar boat as I am??? Even close???

  • The first time I lost these pounds I was a single mom of 2 with baby weight gain. I remember at one point I was working at 7am and was getting up at 4:30am to exercise! It's all worth the sacrifices. For me...I got re-married and then had babies 3 and 4 in less than 2 years...gained it all back. Still can't believe I was that heavy again!

Anyhow - good to "meet" you! Looking forward to getting to know you better.
  • Just wanted to say welcome!
