Wheat Intolerance?

  • Hi everyone,

I was a little unsure about where to post this. Basically, I've recently been told that I suffer from a strong intolerance to wheat. My doctor has recommended switching all my usual brands of bread, pasta, rice etc. to spelt varieties. I was just wondering, is this likely to affect my weight loss? I'm assuming that maybe spelt would be a bit better than eating regular bread?

I definitely don't want to start gaining!

Any input would be appreciated, as I don't really know much about this yet.
  • I've got a couple of things you could try.
If you put celiac into the search function, you should be able to find threads and posters who have similar troubles.
Lots of folks kind of stumble upon grain intolerances while experimenting with low carb.

That's what happened to me and I hang around in the thread linked in my signature.
  • Sometimes food intolerances will cause you to gain weight, so correcting the issue will help. It happened with me and my Aunt.

Personally, I didn't switch to spelt but I sometimes use almond flour instead, it has a cornbread taste. I basically gave up my pasta, rice, etc and it hasn't bothered me since.

The only thing you'll have to get used to is the looks you'll get while ordering burgers and sandwiches in restaurants.
  • Thanks for the input guys

I'm grateful that as far as intolerances go, its something that won't have a major impact on my life. We have an excellent health food shop near home that carries a lot of wheat-alternatives, so I'm feeling confident about it
