Heart rate monitor. Too many choices!

  • So I want to get a heart rate monitor and after searching and looking at previous posts, I think I would like to get the Polar F6. Any one have it? Pro's? Con's? Anything similar at a cheaper price? $100 is a little steep for me to pay, although DBF offered to go halves on it with me. I just want one that tells heart rate, calories burned, and time. One that keeps track of distance would be nice, but so far those seem really expensive! Thanks!
  • Hey!
When I posted this question people suggested the Polar ones as well! They are expensive but apparently you can find cheaper ones it just depends on what you want it to tell you. Unfortunately there were none in stock on Amazon and no one really suggested any other place so hopefully your post will help me too lol
  • Mine is Polar F6. I like it fine, but honestly I just want time, heart rate while exercising, calories burned, average heart rate and max heart rate. I keep a separate workout log, I don't need it to remember it all. I do not use it to hook up to computer things. I don't swim with it so don't care about water resistance.... All the rest? I ignore it, never use it, etc. Makes me crazy actually with too many buttons and a difficult manual.

The one I had before was the F4. That was better, but still had stuff I did not use. I can't remember the other 2 models but they were polar. They last a long while. (It is MY fault for breaking them by accident or loosing them -- that's why I had to get new.)

I'd buy Polar again without qualms.

I'd suggest try to buy just enough for what basic things you want. Unless the thing is on super sale, it is pointless to pay for bells and whistles you will never use. And even on sale -- having too many options, buttons, crazy manual... is it worth it? Would it frustrate you and stop you from using it? Something to consider.

Truly and honestly? If I had a budget of $100 and were to buy right now? I'd go with a simpler Polar FS2C or Polar FT1, spend the $70 ish and go get a new top/shorts workout outfit with the rest.

I'm not an athlete type exerciser though -- a person at that level may want something else.

I bought from ebay, amazon, title9... and one other place. It's all about the same, really.

    GL!
