Oh no...I discovered the sample dish in the bakery section

  • I go to Walmart around every other day. At least. Not uncommon to go every day. I live close, and I buy produce and other little things that I need. I know, I know, Walmart has mediocre produce at best and it's an evil corporation and all that. But ya know what? I'm a poor college kid and it's cheap and convenient, lol.

Anyways, I don't know HOW I have gone to Walmart so frequently for so long and NEVER discovered the sample trays in the bakery section. Shoot, before I started losing weight, I would have made ten trips by the bakery section every time I went to Wallyworld had I known! I simply never noticed before. I was at the deli getting some turkey a few days ago when I saw this big plastic dish filled with mini cupcakes placed out for the public to freely grab. Upon further inspection, I realized that there were THREE plastic dishes that all had different samples. It took everything I had not to grab a handful of stuff from every dish, haha.

Why oh why did I have to notice this? I was living in such blissful ignorance before. Now every time I go to Walmart, I can't stop wondering what morsels of deliciousness might be calling my name over in the bakery sample dishes. Usually, I have to go at least look. Shameless food porn. They have different stuff every time...cupcakes, cinnamon rolls, brownies, etc. Even those grocery store sugar cookies with the frosting that tastes like sugary plastic but I love them anyways. I try to convince myself that it's all nasty grocery store bakery stuff anyways. And that it's been sitting out for who knows how long. And all the grubby hands that have been in those sample dishes. But I still drool over them.

So far I haven't given in and had a single sample, but Lord knows it kills me every time, haha.
  • Once, at a grcoery store bakery sample tray, I saw a child of about 5 or so touch about 15 cookies, choose one, lick it, and put it back.

Cured me of my desire for samples.
  • Or people who sneeze or cough on them. I won't touch them!
  • Just think of people touching them that haven't washed their hands after going to the washroom....it's the reason they can't have uncovered mints at the front of restaurants anymore. The samples came up with a bunch of stuff on them that you don't want to know about!

Thank you very much for curing me forever of any desire to ever sample any item ever again from a bakery sample tray.

    Never, ever, ever again.
  • Avoid those things! The only samples I will eat are the ones someone dishes out for me at Costco. The ones where the food is just left out are full of germs. *shudder* I won't even eat food at a picnic, etc. if I don't know who made it...
  • These sample dishes are covered with a little door thing that you have to open to get to them. And they're pretty high up so kids can't reach them. I would actually have to reach up to grab something, and I'm not short. So as far as sample dishes go, these are fairly safe.

Anyways, even thinking about somebody scratching their butt and then reaching in for a sample cupcake isn't enough to keep me from wanting them. I'm shameless and I have a stomach of steel. I'm the person that will eat anything off the ground after a quick brush off.

But alas, I will continue to resist...hehe.
