‘Waste disposal’ sluggish

  • As a retired nurse I am well used to this in patients… 3 crosses in the bowel book then ‘Roll over Mrs Jones’
I’m not exactly clogged solid, but even though I’m having a well balanced diet with a 180ml glass of water every hour I’m still slowing up. I exercise moderately every day and walk where I used to take the car.
Freshly squeezed orange juice and grapefruit are part of my diet regime, also weetabix. I can’t take any more fluid on board because at my age I’m back and fore to the bathroom all night as it is
Hubby says it is just my body settling onto a new life-style. Anybody else have this problem at the start?
  • Yes, I'm with you on this. And it seems like with the MUCH higher fiber intake (mostly from raw fruits and vegetables, but also from high-fiber oatmeal and flax seed!!) that one might have the opposite problem, but I'm right there with you. Strange!! I was just thinking I might increase the flax seed to maybe 0.5 tsp morning and evening meals to see if that helps. I guess we could also experiment with the tried-and-true dried plum (prune) cure. I'm definitely not stopping my program, because it's really working well as far as health and weight loss, but I'm also pretty sure there's no need for us to be uncomfortable. I'll check in with this thread to see if you find anything that works, and I'll post if I do.
  • im having this problem too, i didnt want to post a thread because ia bit embarrassed so thanks for doing it, at least now i know im not alone.

ive done a bit of research which said calcium can help too but most dairy is high calorie so im finding it hard to get into my plan.

im three weeks so i guess its my body adjusting too, in fairness my body is probably in shock that its getting real food for the first time ever.

i did end up taking a senakot but i wouldnt recommend, it didnt make me need to go straight in the morning but a few hours later i was out shopping and if i hadnt of found a toilet things could have gotten dangerous, so wouldnt recommend unless you have a toilet on hand all day
  • I have read that taking pro-biotics helps as this supports your gut flora which helps with the elimination. Afraid I can't confirm as haven't used as a remedy but the person in the thread had found it useful. Not an instant cure though!
  • I think I have found a solution. I usually sprinkle some ground flax seed onto my oatmeal in the morning. Well, I doubled the amount for the last couple of days, plus I sprinkled a little into my coleslaw (kind of tastes crunchy and nutty), and voila. It has definitely helped. DO NOT jump into a big ol' spoon of flax seed in your food or you'll definitely regret it, but build up slowly. I believe you'll see a positive change.
  • Awww Thanks girls. I thought I was the only one. Back in the 1970's some friends and I tried the Cabbage Soup. They were all trumping for Britain and I was clogged solid. Even after all that cabbage.
Thanks girls I'll try the pro biotic and the flax seed and see which suits me the best. Thanks for the tip about Justonemorepound, I'll avoid it because our public ladies loos are at a premium this summer in our city. You have to use the department store ones.
PRUNE JUICE: No way! I'd rather have a pull through with a knotted rope.

I've justJust noticed BettyRubble that You and I are next-door neighbours. I live in the next county to you. Will PM you when I get my ticker etc.
  • A magnesium supplement could help get things moving. I take 400 to 500 mg at night before bed and have a movement the next morning.
