What's a good beginning fitness program?

  • I bought Core Rhythms way back when, I have like 4 diff. DVDs. However, they confused me and I wasn't feeling anything/breaking into a sweat, so I figured I was doing them wrong. I got upset and just boxed them. They're somewhere in my room.

So basically, what's a good fitness program for a beginner? Something...simple to understand, yet works?
  • Leslie Sansone Walk Away The Pounds series
  • Thanks for the suggestion.

I looked her up. But...how do you get a workout by walking in place? XD Better question: How the heck DO you walk in place? I assume she teaches you? Because...I'm getting visions of Michael Jackson's sliding walks and I don't think that's quite right xD
  • I liked Kim Lyons.

Also collagevidoe has preview clips of everything -- even the Sansone ones.

    HTH!

  • I agree with the walk away the pounds suggestion. I've lost plenty of weight with her videos! I love that they're simple as far as footwork and what not go (I'm not very coordinated and am very clumsy). I thought it sounded a little weird when my manager at work mentioned them but I was able to jump right in and I still love them four years later.
  • I am very keen on Callanetics. For me, it has been amazing. Also, rebounding (mini-trampolines). For added resistance, one can use ankle weights while jumping, dancing, jogging, doing jumping jacks, kicks.
  • I love Chalean Extreme You have to invest in some handweights or an exercise band, but its really worth it. I'm doing it after being on bedrest for five months with my last child, so I wanted to start with something that wouldn't kill me. Also I can never get those super dance move exercise programs down, I end up getting frustrated, falling all over myself, and quitting. Her program is really easy to learn and do. You can google Chalene Extreme+ reviews and/or results for lots of websites that explaine it alot better than I can.
This program is great, it is currently kicking my butt, however it really works. In three weeks I've lost four inches from my waist and my clothes are fitting much much looser. I don't weight myself as I know I'm gaining muscle and I don't want to be put off by the scale weight. Who gives a crap how many lbs I've lost when I've gone down a dress size? DH has noticed a big difference too, not just in my clothes but in my energy level and attitude. Its a bit expensive, but you can find used ones on Ebay/Craigslist/whatever. There is also a thread in these forums about it.
