So I've been practicing the insulin resistance diet for like two days (go me!) and today i had some very intense carb cravings...i had oatmeal for breakfast, a turkey sandwhich and an apple for lunch, some stuffed peppers for dinner...then we went to the store, and i come home, and BAM... i want carbs. i'm about halfway through the book, but it hasn't exactly said what to do when you eat carbs yet. it tells you how much to generally eat, and what to do if you're still hungry, but carb cravings is NOT hunger! it's just that feeling that screams "I WANT BROWNIES!" or something of that nature... do you just grin and bear it or am i supposed to just make up for it by eating something protein-y or what? i could really go for that donut in my kitchen right now, but i am resisting.
What did you have besides just the oatmeal? This is where I have problems for a "set up" later in the day if I'm not careful. Perhaps pair it with some hard boiled eggs next time?
How long in between your meals? And how many calories? Perhaps you truly are hungry, and the reason for the carb craze is because that's usually a quick blood sugar boost.
What about your fluid intake? Perhaps it is thirst and not hunger? It is easy to confuse the two.
If you are just cutting out white flour, white sugar type stuff... the first few days stink. Just bear through it and try to have alternatives on hand that are ok -- fruit, cheese, hummus, etc.

I know the carb craving and it sucks!! I have it today and the only thing I can think about is cakes and chocolate biscuits. I find eating a salty cheese really helps. Now sure what your way of eating is but if you are allowed cheese, try a chunk of cheese with either tea or coffee. I find that this usually calms me down. Except i am off dairy as my chinese dr said it makes me retain water, so I have nothing to distract me. Also, I find that when I have bread/gluten I tend to get crazy sugar cravings and when I dont eat bread, I tend to have minimal craving. Can you have your chicken with salad and n4o bread and see how that works? I like to be more encouraging but I really dont have anything.I know after time it will get better. Maybe think about the post donout eating remorse because that tends to stop me binging usually and throw out the donout in the bin. No good having something that tempting in the house!
OMG> Starbucks has these brownies that I swear call my name...confession. i had half an apple pie the other day as well.
I heard dairy wasn't good for the PCOS.
I started lUna bars as a substitue for brownies.
I also like the ******** cleanse bars. They really cut your app and carb cravings. great for diet/meal replacements as well!
