Workout Wear..Need Opinions

  • I need a few things.

    1. A good pair of bike shorts, with the pad, that will make by butt comfy while riding. I don't ride now because of the pressure on my sit bones. Suggestions?

    2. I workout indoors now. I don't sweat all that much so I usually wear my workout clothes several times before washing. I only have two bras and two sets of workout wear (pants and tank). Do you wear yours more than once? if so, how much before washing? Mine don't stink, but I don't want them to break down faster. I've been reading about bacteria in clothes. Sorry if this is gross.

    3. Do you actually have workout clothes or do you just wear whatever? My friend wears her PJs in the morning. Just rolls out of bed without changing. She doesn't even wear a bra. She holds her boobs in place with her hands while she jogs. She's crazy.
  • 1) When I rode my bike a lot, I went to a cycling shop and bought a pair there. See if you can try them on--you want them to snug and not go down to low in the back otherwise you'll get arrested for peddling crack (get it? hahahaha!)
    2) I sweat like a fiend even when I work out indoors. I buy cheap tank tops and exercise pants when the go on sale or when I have coupons. Today at JCPenny, I got two pairs of workout capris for 17 bucks (I saved $40).
    3) Yup, I like wearing workout clothes when I work out. But if it works for your friend to wear her pj's, that's awesome. I have to be honest, I started laughing when I visualized holding my boobs while running!
  • I mostly just either walk or jog outdoors right now. I have one pair of running capris; you know, the kind of tight spandexy things. I have 4 or 5 workout tops and I alternate between a couple of my favorites. I usually only wear the tops once or twice before washing them (depends on how sweaty the day was). The pants only get washed once a week. I am very big on top so I double up on bras; I wear a structured, snug underwire sports bra with one of those stretchy "uniboob" sports bras over that. This combination keeps the girls firmly in place; unlike your friend, I wouldn't be able to jog with my huge boobs flopping around (but it's hilarious to think about!).

So...that's what I do. Wearing the running capris and the sports tops makes me feel more athletic and more likely to work out.
  • I wear my workout clothes many times. I tend to let them air dry. When I was working and running at lunch I would take ONE set of workout clothes and wear it all week.

I sweat more now, so I rotate clothes faster, but I tend to rewear and then when it is time to do a load of workout clothes I do them all.

I wear mostly fresh to the gym, as a courtesy to others, but to run outside I just grab whatever.

Also, on the bike short thing, also look at seats. I use a seat called "chubby cheeks" because it is made for wider sit bones.
  • I have great luck finding nice but inexpensive workout clothes at Kohls, JCP and Walmart. I like to wear compression shorts under regular shorts when I run and then only the compression shorts get washed every time. Like Ennay says I always wear fresh to the gym for the sake of others but if I am just heading out the door to run or walk around the neighborhood not so much! And a good sports bra is a must! I even wear mine horseback riding! I also got a great laugh thinking about trying to run and hold onto the girls! The other thing I do is ALWAYS hang my workout stuff to dry after washing it - most of those materials dry really fast and it makes them last longer!
  • For padded bike shorts, try Pricepoint online. They have great clearance prices! And if something doesn't fit, it's easy to return it. I buy all my hubby's and daughter's biking shorts there.

I wear workout clothes, but I sweat lots when I workout. So I wear different ones every day, and wash them everytime I wear them.

  • Underneath I'm wearing my $75 exercise bra that gets washed once a week and air dried. The outer clothes are clothes that have gotten too big to wear as "regular" clothes any more. They include work pants I've cut off and hemmed to be shorts and t-shirts I've cut the arms and extra length off of. They get washed or discarded once they start to smell.

I do plan on buying some actual workout outfits after I've gone through these transition clothes.

Hahahahaha! Best thing I've read all morning.

1, don't have an opinion on the shorts as I wear those spandexy capri's or capri sweats.

2, I wash them as often as I do laundry, if doing a load I just throw it in. Pants and shirts usually go two or three work outs before getting a wash in some cases though.

3, I started out with two wife beaters and two pairs of capri sweats that I got on sale. I actually have now bought the same sweats in a smaller size as the others got too big and got those spandex style ones as well. I have four pairs I alternate with working out, and usually wear a wifebeater or a tank on top. I don't wear a sports bra though, just a regular supportive one.
