Ways to tone inner and outter thighs?

  • Ever since reading the sticky about the most ineffective machines, I'm wondering what is the best way to tone the inner and outter thighs?

I was planning on using the adductor/abductors because with my brief stint at Curves I had learnt that was how you worked on those areas. I get that they are ineffective as I do feel sloppy when I do them, it's an awkward range of motion.

I want to make these areas on my leg stronger and more toned, I know if I lie on my side and do leg lifts that is supposed to help.

    What do you guys do?
  • Squats, lunges, deadlifts, etc.

Those exercises basically give your legs a full workout. Unfortunately a lot of the lack of 'tone' is really just excess fat so you need to burn the fat off and do leg exercises that work the entire legs.
  • When DH and I were biking more, I had the best legs I ever had! I was even somewhat cut along the outer thigh.

    HTH!

  • Biking and hiking are helping my legs tone up all around. Plus they are way more fun than leg lifts or machines!
  • my favorite inner thigh workout is getting a stability ball (one of those huge exercise balls) and then laying flat on the floor and squeezing the ball between my legs for 8 seconds, releasing for 2, then squeezing again. you definitely will feel the burn!
  • Hiking. I am absolutely stunned how good my thighs look at age 50. They didn't look like this even as a teenager.
  • sumo squats....love those. I usually hold one dumbbell end on rather than a medicine ball but same thing.
  • Sorry for the late response, I was on vacation this last week.

Those are some good suggestions. I had been biking but have been doing more running instead lately. I notice my calves are getting that cut square look but my thighs in the upper area just seem to look the same.

I'll have to try some of these out nelie, I do agree I most likely need to lose some more fat from that area before the muscle shows through better.
  • I LOVE plie squats and biking for my legs. Those will tone your legs all over. Especially if you add in some weights as well.

OMG! I love the look of those sumo squats. I have a medicine ball I haven't even used yet. Now I have a good way to put it to work! Thanks
