Question about SparkPeople: Nutrition Section

  • I had a SparkPeople page, I don't use it for the nutrition section since I use fitday.com for that. I was looking at it today though and noticed at the bottom of the page it says:

    Daily Goal:
    Calories - 1,260 - 1,610
    Carbs - 170 - 245
    Fat - 34 - 59
    Protein - 60 - 132

As far as the carbs, fat and protein go, is this the range I really should be in?
  • Looks right to me. That is just about what mine says. I do use sparks for logging food. I have been using it since January, and it works for me. I do tend to stick more to the low range of fat though.

Typically my day is like this:

    150-160 carbs
    29-45 fat
    65-80 protein

    I heart sparkpeople.
  • I don't like fat grams, and I believe combining calorie counting with fat gram counting is the key to my success right now, so your fat gram guide is 2 to 3 times the amount I normally eat. I also don't strive for that much protein, not only because I am a vegetarian and don't get it from meat sources, but also because I am not convinced the body needs that much. I eat a large amount of carbs. Of course everyone is different, and don't weight even close to the same amount, but here is my guide:

    150-300g carbs
    50-75g protein
    20-28g fat
  • You can use a calculator like this one to determine your macronutrient (carb, fat, protein) needs. Then on sparkpeople.com, on your nutrition page, click on "Change Nutrition Goals" to change the numbers to what you need. The numbers Spark provides is just a basic general requirement.
  • Thanks everyone!
