Hello

  • Hi, I'm Marly...I'm 26 and live in LA (the land of the obnoxiously skinny...and did you know you can't go anywhere without seeing/hearing ads for the lap band and new diets?).

I often sabotage my own progress and I'm trying to figure out why. Any thoughts or support are appreciated!
  • Hi and welcome to 3FC.

    Good luck with your goals.

    Hugs

  • Hi there,

I'm not sure why you sabotage your own progress as I do the same... but I've started my mission again today and I really want to stick to it this time. Is it because you are setting yourself unrealistic expectations? i.e. is the goal too far away? Are you trying to achieve your goal in too little time? Are you getting enough calories each day? I'm not sure what regimes you've tried but maybe you need to set yourself some mini goals i.e. aim for 10lbs, then when you've achieved that you'll feel good about yourself and set off to lose the next 10lbs. Then before you know it, you'll be at your target weight. It might be easier to stay focused on smaller amounts, rather than just looking at the total amount you want to lose all the time. Just a thought.
  • Welcome and good luck with your WL goals!!! I am new here too and know how it is to struggle with losing weight. I think, for me anyway, that I turn to food to deal with emotions and stress. Then, when I am feeling crappy about doing that, I eat more to deal with those emotions. It doesn't make sense, even in my head as it is happening, but it's what I do and how I sabotage myself. NO MORE! I took a stress management course and now I am finding new ways to deal with life. Sure I love me some good food, but I love myself more. You can do this!!! We can all do this!!!
  • There could be a ton of reasons why any one person can sabotage. I think in the beginning for me, I was afraid of failing. That people would see my weightloss, and God forbid I failed, because then they would see me gain it all back. In the end, I figured my health and weightloss was worth fighting for, so I took the risk and, slowly but surely, the weight is coming off.

Good luck to you - hope you reach your goals. Just know that you CAN do this.
  • Hi Marly, welcome and good luck on your journey!
