Mini Rant

  • I have busted tail to drop these first 11 pounds. Its taken FOREVER to get myself going--then KEEP myself going.

I am FINALLY in Onederland... so I thought whats my next "Big One"? Its just being 'overweight'. So I pull up a BMI calculator and go to town, plugging in numbers until I see the lucky number.

    169.

Thats THIRTY more pounds. These ELEVEN have been like pulling teeth.

How on Earth am I EVER going to get there?
  • You'll get there...one step at at time....one pound at a time...You've lost 11 pounds! That's a goal met. Maybe take a similar one for your next goal...say 10 more pounds. Don't focus on the 30.

I've found that even though I've gotten stuck a few times, keeping going was easier after the first 10 pounds. You're on a roll now...don't get discouraged.

You can do it! Hang in there!
  • Well, I see you're at 199, which is a huge goal for me, since I haven't been under 200 lbs in almost 10 years. I look at my current weight, and wonder how long it'll take me to get there?!? It's tough, but hang in there! And take it one step at a time. Try not to look so far ahead to that 169. Maybe look toward 195 or 190. And when you eventually reach 175, that 169 won't seem so far away! :-)
  • And try to take some time to enjoy Onederland!!!! That's a HUGE accomplishment. I know I'll be celebrating like crazy when I get there!
  • Small goals work best for me because I can get so overwhelmed and distracted and disappointed so easy! Take it slow!!!! It will happen and you can definitely do it!!!! xoxo Good luck!
  • I read something the other day - I wish I could remember where, so I could send the link to you. The gist of it was to set TINY goals. Instead of focusing on losing 30 lbs; focus on just 10 more; or even better -- focus on 1 or 2 more You get a lot more victory dances that way! 11 Lbs is a big deal, really Good job on that!
  • I saw that for myself too- I was like 169 that's too far!

My current mini goal is to get out of the 190s Then it'll be 180s, then in the "overweight" category, etc.
  • The first 10lbs was my hardest too. This is the time where you are learning and your body is adjusting to changes. just keep with it. There will be plateaus and losses just keep going. It will happen.
  • You guys are right!

I set my ticker for my 5% goal and thats what I should be looking at. You know what they say-- if you stare at the mountain down the road too long, you trip over the pebble thats right in front of your feet.

    Thanks!

I feel like 199 is a HUGE goal that is SO far away for me. I haven't been below 200 since college. SO, My next tiny goal is to get below 210... then I can focus on 199. I do feel like I work SO hard for every single little ounce lost. But it will be worth it in the end...

I like to jog. I oftern try to do four miles (takes me about an hour). And I find that the first two miles can often be rough... but then, it is like I hit a groove and the second two miles are almost easy (ALMOST!). I am hoping weight loss will be like that... like the first part is a bit tough, but then once you get some momentum going, once you fall into a pattern, once you learn that you don't have to eat the brownie now b/c there will always be brownies for later... I think then it will get a bit easier.
  • Thanks so much for these tips, and the encouragement. Its TOM... so I am up a pound, *****y, and just feeling plain old icky.

I have been strength training at night...and doing my cardio in the morning. I switch back and forth between walking and a jog/walk combo. Things are sticking around 199/200 and I am going to keep on pushing through.

I am so grateful for this thirties board, and all of you ladies.

LOVE THIS!! Thanks for sharing. I might put this saying in a frame and read it EVERY MORNING before my workout! Helps to refocus my attention on just getting through that day and that morning workout. We'll all reach that mountain eventually, but let's not 'trip' over these very SMALL obstacles that are right in front of us!
