NSV;;; High heels!

  • Well, I've never worn heels before. It's always been a disaster when I tried. I was so ungraceful and unbalanced. I remembering wanting to wear heels at my high school graduation, which was my high weight, and getting a pair. Simply practicing walking around the house in them

However, 5 years later, and having lost 63 pounds (mostly over the past year), and taking dancing classes for about a year has led me into feeling more and more comfortable with myself. I have a banquet coming up in about 2 weeks and I decided that I was going to get a new dress for it.

Well, I bought this gorgeous just above the knee, summer dress. At least I think it's gorgeous. Some of my friends have deemed it eccentric, but whatever... that's not the point. And I thought about my brown flats that I could wear with it. But they just weren't ELEGANT enough! So I was looking at some shoes and I found some plain brown heels, with a simply strap. It was exactly what I wanted and so I tried those suckers on in the store (and I have to say that my feet have also shrunk a size since starting to lose weight, as I can now wear 7 1/2 or 8s when before I needed 9s.

But those shoes fit great in the store and I walked around a bit. None of this wobbly wobbly tripping over myself and almost breaking my ankles as I had remembered before. Well I bought them, and of course I put them on this morning. I'm still going to "practice" wearing them so I don't look like a doofus who has never worn heels before (like I am... haha)... don't want to fall over while I'm giving a speech or something. That would be ridiculous.

But I feel so graceful and elegant now! I can totally tell that I've built up strength in my legs and ankles, and that I have more balance, and though I still have wideish feet (and likely always will as all my skinny family does too), I don't look like I've stuffed them in there. Oh how exciting!! I can't wait.
  • Congrats, that's so awesome! I remember being in high school and always trying to find shoes that fit and looked pretty was always pretty disasterous, so I can definitely relate to this NSV! Now I think all you have to do is paint your toenails a pretty color, and you'll be all set!
  • Congrats...yes, that was one of my first NSVs. Not wearing heels in the first 46 years of my life, now I wear them daily to work. Stillettos too! I will be 50 next month.
  • Bravo ... Way to go.
  • Coming from a shoeaholic, WTG! I live in 4" heels every day (4.5" today) and I guess I'm a bit addicted to the attention as it's hard to ignore a woman that is 6'3".

    Keep on practicing
  • Congratulations. Ever since I put on my first pair of heels, I have never worn flats again.
  • yay! congrats and great job.
  • Great NSV! Congratulations!!!
  • That's great! I am hoping for this NSV eventually as well. I've never been able to wear them. That is awesome! Grats!
