Can I eat TOO many vegetables?

  • Hi all!

On my first week of medifast! I LOVE LOVE LOVE vegetables and find it hard to limit it to 1.5 cups of "green" a day. It also helps w/the hunger. Any thoughts on if eating more limits weight loss?

    Thanks!!
  • I'm not sure, I'm new too.

1 serving of lettuce, and raw spinach is one full cup, so I've been using 3 cups of lettuce for my green serving...it a lot of lettuce.
  • Yes
yes you can eat *too many* greens. However when you opt for lettuce or other leafy green veggis you get 1 cup per serving! Other veggies are 1/2 cup.

To be 100% OP you should not go over your 3 servings, however if having extra low carb veggies helps you, and you don't use condiments are are able to stay 100carbs you should be g2g. Hope that helps!
  • Hi spaghetticat!

(I agree with what she said!)
  • Wow small internet :P
  • Eating too many vegetables will raise your carbohydrate intake and it will prevent you from getting into ketosis. Once you are in ketosis, your hunger will subside and you will be in fat burning state. If you can follow the plan as written, then in 3-5 days you will be sailing into fat burning state, not be hungry and losing weight FAST. I didn't think I could so it but I did and I am at the point where I have to force myself to eat my lean and green and my last 2 MF meals or Wonderslim meals. When I first started I used only Medifast. Now I use Medifast, Wonderslim and Bariwise.
  • OK, I am just going to say this. No you cannot eat to many vegetables. Your talking about something that is packed with vitamins and minerals, something we all need. A serving of lettuce should be three cups. It is not the vegetables we eat that make us gain it is all the crap that goes on them on the other foods. With hmr I eat three to five servings a day MINIMUM. This is why I love the program. If I had to feel hungry all day I would never loose any weight.
  • To follow the plan, yes, you only get three servings of veggies.

That being said If you are tracking everything you eat (every BLT, bite lick taste) as long as you get the right Nutrients, it can be done. Search the medifast boards for a post titled "Detailed listing of nutrients needed - need it ASAP" in the "Registered Dietitians Support" forum for the complete list of nutrients (I can't link yet). BUT this requires faithful tracking of everything. Thus why they created the three veggie rule (so we don't have to label analyze everything).

On medifast vegetables are limited in order to get into ketosis. HMR and Medifast are two different plans. While doing MF it is recommended to stay below 100 grams of carb with 80-85 being ideal for the fat burning stage. So, yes one can eat too many vegetables DEPENDING on what plan they are doing.
