yams

  • can anybody tell me a good recipe for yams?
  • I bake yams at 400 F. for 1 hour or until they are done.
    Just scrub them & put them in the oven.
    When they are done I scoop the insides out & sprinkle with salt, Put a little butter & some brown sugar on it & mash.

    It's real simple.

  • Grill em! Seriously, get some Garnet Yams. Scrub them and wrap tightly in tin foil, then throw them on a hot grill for 45-60 minutes, turning every 15 minutes or so. They may start to drip at the end but that's ok. They will come out wonderfully carmelized. The skin will peel off easly, carefull, they will be HOT HOT HOT!
    You can also slice them into thick slices. Dip your finger in some vegitable oil and LIGHTLY rub the cut surfaces until covered. Sprinkle a pinch of kosher salt (find it with the spices and flour) on each one and grill over a medium heat. Turn when they are browned, maybe 15 minutes. Wonderfully sweet/salty taste, and the amount of oil is negligable.

  • I peel them slice them (thick slices) then core and slice 2-3 apples toss them with some cinnamon and sugar (can use *splenda*) bake at 400 until fork tender -- If you really want a treat top with miniature marshmallows -- just remember although they are fat free they are not calorie free
  • I just cook mine and mash them up. Top them with marshmallows. (fat free!!) and eat 'em. They're awesome!!!
  • I slice mine like French Fries and spray with butter Pam, sprinkle with salt lite and pepper, bake at 350 degrees for about 30 - 45 minutes. Tender test with fork! YUM!
  • This recipe is so good. Use Yams or Sweet Potatoes

    Orange Sweet Potatoes

    1 very large or 2 med. sweet potatoes (1 1/2 lbs) peel, cut in half, then lengthwise into 8 wedges
    3/4 cup orange juice
    1 tsp. etra virgin olive oil
    1/2 tsp. cinnamon
    1/2 tsp. cumin
    1 tsp honey
    1/4 cup dried cranberries or dried cherries (optional)

    Toss potato wedges with orange juice, olive oil, cinnamon, cumin, honey and a little salt. Spread in a shallow baking dish and bake, covered in a 400 degree oven until fork tender but not mushy. (about 45 min) Basting nce or twice during baking. Uncover for the last 15 minutes and sprinkle with cranberries or cherries if desired.

    Makes 6 servings 2 pts each
