Best Frozen Meals

  • I am looking to stock my freezer with some frozen meal options for those days when I work overtime or I am just plain ole' tired and too lazy too cook. I'm hoping that doing this will deter me from eating out on those days.

    What are the best options lowest sodium / fat available?? What would you recommend??

  • I'm not sure about sodium/fat content (sodium is going to be an issue with any of them and I don't pay much attention to how much fat something has), but I've been eating a lot of these in the last few months (I hurt my back in february, and standing up cooking really aggravated it). I've found that I'm not so fond of most of the Healthy Choice meals (edible, yes, but just not great) and the Weight Watchers Smart Ones aren't my fave either. Lean Cuisine and the Vons/Safeway store brand called "Eating Right" are the best tasting.
  • I also am not too sure about the exact sodium content of my favorite, but it’s low cal and filling and I don’t eat it much…guess maybe I should pay more attention lol. Anyway, it’s the Lean Cuisine Cheese Ravioli and I loooove it. I honestly think it tastes like regular restaurant ravioli. So yummy

    It is super delicious, and doesn't taste like something that has just been reheated in a plastic dish after spending a few months in a freezer. That being said, I usually avoid frozen meals because I'd rather cook myself something in advance and then store extra in the fridge. I'd suggest Kashi and Amy's meals, they are better than Lean Cuisine or Smart Ones in my opinion and have better stats as far as I'm concerned.

  • I've never had Kashi, but what I've tried of Amy's are very yummy. I think they're all vegetarian (which is great because, while I'm not a vegetarian now, I used to be, and I still love veg food), so it might depend on if you like vegetarian food.

    Kashi Mayan Harvest is one of my favs too!! I'm also a big fan of Ethnic Gourmet Leongrass & Basil. Thai food for 380 calories. YES PLEASE!!
  • Frozen dinners are also great if travelling and microwave is available. I enjoyed Healthy Choice 270 cal and good amount of fiber. True about sodium but there are only so many variables I can account for and calories and high fiber out ranks sodium in a pinch for me.
  • I love Lean Cuisine, too. So many options, and I haven't tried one yet that I didn't really like. The Asian ones are my favorite! Thai Chicken, Orange Chicken... Making me hungry!!
  • amy's vegan burritos are sooooo good, and taste like something out of a mexican place. they're super filling too because of the brown rice and beans. it's around 180 cal, though i'm not too sure about the sodium.
  • I was actually going to say Amy's as well. pretty good choice they have a spinach white/bean burrito that i really like.

  • most Amy's Kitchen, certain Healthy Choice, certain Kashi, and some of the Archer Farm's Simply Balanced line.

    Really it depends.

    And not frozen but handy all the same because it doesn't need a fridge (good desk thing)...
    • 1 can black beans, rinsed and drained
    • 1 can corn, rinsed and drained,
    • 1 can italian or mexican stewed tomato.

    Open, combine, eat. Heat if desired. Garnish with green onion or cilantro if desired.
