wanting something crunchy

  • I crave crunch! I mean, I used to eat chips, then I thought crackers would be more healthy (wheat thins or triscuit) and then I Decided they were not great so I stopped buying crunchy things altogether....except....we had croutons. So I started munching those.

today i made a big 6 inch plate piled high of raw veggies! Carrots, celery and half a red pepper.

I think I'm going to attempt to eat one every day or every other day to up my veggie intake.

and maybe it'll work for my need for crunch!

What have you guys had cravings for and learned to replace your old 'sweet' or salty' or 'crunchy' foods with more healthy versions of?

  • I don't know what type of plan you are on but can you have air popped popcorn?
  • I crave crunch, too! I get these awesome bagel "chips" in a box. Herb garlic flavor, I think. They are 60 cals for 6 large chips. I love them with some light laughing cow cheese on top, or just plain. Cures the craving quick!

eta- I found them by the croutons and other salad-type breads (like the crunchy sticks and stuff lol)
  • Lottie - there was just a similar discussion at a different forum. You may some ideas from these:

For my sweet (and chocolate) yummy, I take Jello fat free dark chocolate mousse and put it in the freezer. It's like a dark chocolate ice cream and only 60 calories.
  • My sweet tooth craving I satisfy by topping a sugar free double chocolate pudding cup (60 cal.) & top it with a Tb. of light cool whip (15 cal.).

Beverlyjoy - I haven't thought of freezing the mousse cups before! That's a great idea!
  • I buy baby carrots by the truck load. At first, it took my tummy a while to get used to all the extra fiber but they help me when I want something to crunch on. They aren't salty but work for dips and dressing. I love a handful of carrots with 2 tbs of peanut butter. The crunch goes well with the slightly sweet/salty of the peanut butter.
  • Frozen grapes are kind of crunchy, too. Actually, they have an interesting texture all around and seems to sate my crunchy, creamy, sweet cravings.

I was also looking at some brown rice crips at the grocery store tonight. 88% organic products and only 80 calories per 10 crisps. I didn't pick them up though, but I think they would work nicely for a crispy and crunchy craving.
  • I love the air popped popcorn to crunch on and I also curve my sweet tooth by spraying the popcorn with the calorie free I can't beleive its not butter spray and then they have this stuff in the grocery store (I got it at Walmart) called kernel season's popcorn seasoning in kettle corn flavor it has 5 calories per 1/4 teaspoon and no sodium so the popcorn tastes like kettle corn and it is awesome! It says on the bottle you can even use it on cereal, toast, oatmeal, tea etc. YUMMM! They have other flavors as well!
