Anyone else take meds that prevent/really slow down weight loss?

  • I often need to take nsaids for a chronic foot/ankle condition. I am going through a particularly painful spell now. But, when I take the meds for the pain, my foot medicine pretty much stops the losing process. It seems to be that way for different kinds, too.

I've been frustrated with this. I am trying to carry on. It's crazy - I don't want to take the pain med (nsaid) because it effects my weight loss. Boy, that's really silly in the long run - but, my head doesn't think logically when it relates to weight loss. Would I rather be in pain or lose weight - the answer isn't as obvious as it should be. I have always had trouble taking medications - 'queen of side effects'. I need to remember - in regards to how fast I lose the weight - that it's really not just the timeline - but, the living healthfully with food that matters most. I'll try to tatoo this on my brain and take the medicine when I need it. I think that folks who don't have weight issues can't relate to this thinking, I am quite sure.

Ultimately, I need to control the pain and try to eat healthfully anyway.

Any of you ever go through this?
  • Yes, that happened to me too; I was put on Metformin to help my pre-diabetes and other things, but it made me feel so hungry that my weightloss stalled for a very long time. When I was satisfied that my blood sugar levels were stable, I first cut it down a bit at a time, then weaned myself off the Met completely; and I actually lost weight right way. I was so surprised to find that I had lost about 15 lbs since going off it. Now, I hope that continues with balanced, healthy eating ...
