WAY TMI- Smelling better?

  • Warning-- kind of gross and MEGA embarassing.

I have noticed something kind of weird of late. I'm on Vyvanse for ADHD which makes me naturally sweaty, but I've been able to deal with it pretty easily with strong antiperspirant and making sure to hit everything twice in the shower. I just recently started taking Effexor for depression, like yesterday, and it's made things worse. Add that to the fact that I'm walking everywhere on campus now as part of a fitness goal and that it has been in the 70s and 80s here in Alabama, and, well, you know what happens to us when we sweat in certain areas. Also, for some reason, when I change my diet, I smell different.

Basically, it's a perfect storm of potential grossness. Here's the thing. I don't smell anything except for the fact that my deodorant doesn't always keep me from sweating completely in the armpits. And that doesn't smell BAD. Just a stronger scent from the deodorant itself. But I'm paranoid I have a weird odor coming from other parts and that people close to me can smell it and I can't, which is not an unreasonable idea since I've known other people with body odor that didn't notice it themselves. I can also smell it on specific articles of clothing (i.e. undergarments when putting them in the laundry) but not on myself when I am clothed. Is that normal or am I being crazy? Would I notice it by now if it were actually existent?

If so, does anyone have any suggestions on possibly fixing the problem before it gets more embarassing? I know it's probably much more about me than anyone here ever wanted to know, so sorry about that.
  • I would maybe call and talk to the nurse at the doctor's office and see what they say.

Also, I understand the paranoia of smelling in general. I don't have a sense of smell and it makes me really paranoid. The other day after I went hiking I FELT gross and I was like "OMG I probably stink" and the guy that I was with (and also LIKE) leans over to smell me. I was like "OMG DONT SMELL ME!!!!" and he said I actually DIDN'T smell which was good but still!

    GOOD LUCK!!!!!!
  • In the hot months, I often use panty liners. They absorb a lot of sweat and odors. If it gets stinky midday (or you're worried it is) you can always throw it away and put on a new one.

    I hope this helps
  • Hey, I have ADHD as well and the meds I was on made me sweat too. They also made me very angry very easily so I stopped them and started the Feingold diet which seems to help a lot but not with the impulsive issues.

In the summer months, I use a carry pack of baby wipes and if I feel like I need a cleanse, I just wipe with one. It helps a lot if even for my peace of mind.
