First 5K

  • Hello All,

Today I ran\walked my very first 5K. My time was 40.13ish seconds. I am proud of what I did today as I thought it would take me a lot longer. What are your times to finish a 5K.
  • Wow! Congratulations! What a HUGE accomplishment!
  • Congratulations! And isn't the race culture fascinating -- by this, I mean waiting in line with all the local runners to get your number & the chip for your sneaker & becoming part of that world? It's so good to see all these people who are probably out running alone must of the time, and maybe even indoors for part of the year, brought outside together for one event.

I did 38:10 in my first (& so far only) 5K, in August 2008.

But what I treasure about the event is that my father showed up to see me start & finish the race, when he wasn't well at all. He was in an advanced stage of stomach cancer, and, in fact, would die three months later, with me & my mother at his bedside.

I thought he'd stay at home that day, but he & my mother surprised me. He told her he felt he had to go.

I would like to run another 5K, and see if my time would be better, but I've had recurring flare-ups of plantar fasciitis & cannot run as much as I'd like to.

I wish you continued joy of running & hope you enter many more 5Ks. I think it's good to have these goals to work toward.
  • Congrats!!
  • I ran my first 5k this morning in 31:12. Details on the 'running in april' thread in the exercise section if anyone is interested.

CONGRATULATIONS fellow first-time 5kers! I'm hooked - how about you?
  • I'm thinking of signing up for my first 5k on May 15. I just finished C25k but I'm worried about hills as I've been running inside on a pancake flat track.

    How slow is too slow???
  • I need to get off my butt and do one. I actually run a 5k 5 times a week lol but haven't been able to talk myself into signing up for one!
