wearing shorts

  • so after a brief hot spell i was tempted to wear shorts. mind you, for the past four years, my summertime go-to wear was dresses or skirts. a few months back i went through the closet and got rid of a lot of things. i had khaki shorts in every size from 10-18 (why would it be neccessary to keep them all???). i saved one pair and on monday i actually wore them out of the house. i checked myself a bajillion times before leaving just to make sure i wouldn't be embarassing myself. all seemed fine, until i got into the grocery store and felt extremely uncomfortable. what the heck-man. i'm comfortable being naked, showering in public bathroom situations, but i just felt "not right"...(and they weren't even bunching up one bit). why is my mind playing these tricks on me?
  • I think most of us are really creatures of habit. If you haven't worn something for a long time then it just feels weird to break out of the old way of thinking into a new way of thinking. It is a trick of the mind--not reality. It also takes our minds a bit of time to catch up with our weight loss sometimes.

Next time try wearing them around the house. Check yourself out in the mirror to reassure yourself. In time, I think you will be more comfortable wearing the shorts out in public.

I have just recently began showing off a little more leg and it does feel weird when you haven't done that in awhile. But, my husband and my sons tell me I look good in what I'm chosing. Do you have someone who can give you some honest feed back?

    Keep up the good work!
  • I agree. I wore a tank top last night and it was really weird. It's been years since I've been able to wear a tank top, but I know I looked ok, it's just strange having that much skin exposed. I'm assuming I'll get used to it, I used to wear them all the time when I was younger and skinnier. Oh well. These are good problems to have, right?
