how long would you wait to see a doctor?

  • Last Wednesday I went running. I've only been running since the beginning of the year so I'm still new to it. Well, my last run I added some distance and some hills and noticed towards the last 1/4-1/2mile my ankle started bother me. I pushed through at first and finally decided to stop when the pain started to move up my leg. My ankle has been sore ever since even to just walk, I havne't run since.
  • doesnt really matter, as far as seeing a doctor i mean. He/she will tell you not to run on it, and see if it resolves itself. Its obviously not broken (in the traditional sense) so no x-rays. And even if it was a stress fracture of some form, it wouldnt show up on xray. i say save you r money and dont run on it for a week or more. C if it clears up. Thats what the doc will recommend anyway
  • Are your runners new? This makes a huge difference in how your body responds to running.
    take care, rest and heal.

I'm kinda glad you said this because that's what I was thinking but wasn't sure. I hate going to the doctor and sometimes probably don't go when I should. It's already been a week since I've run and I'm really nervous to see how it's affected my running, will I be able to run even 3 miles when I start again? I'm sure I will but I just don't want to lose everything I've just worked at!

I did just get new shoes and they feel great. I'm thinking I just added to much to quick on my last run. I went from only running 3 3/4 miles on flat road to running 4.5 on a hilly route. I've definately learned my lesson to take that a bit more slowly!
  • *ding ding* you DID just get new shoes? I think you should put on the OLD shoes and go for a run and see what happens!! i didnt even think to ask that!
  • I did. I'd run in them a few times before that and not had any problem before. Could be the new shoes then?
