  • I love posting in this forum because you ladies are just so good at fashion advice. Sorry if this is a question that has been asked before, but...

Here's the deal. I've started losing inches even at just around 15 lbs. It's coming off mostly around my midsection. Which is awesome, because I'm losing tummy and back fat. I have a little waist! Woot! Condundrum: My breasts aren't going anywhere. I know they have a tendency to do this because I have seen it when my weight fluctuated before and most of the women in my family are the same way, but combining this with my new birth control is leaving me with shrinking band sizes and growing cup sizes just because how how bra sizes are measured. Trust me, I know all this stuff-- I work at Victoria's Secret. Haha. I've gone from comfortably fitting in a 36C to a 34D, and now I'm starting to spill out of those! >.<

I've never had anything above a C in my life, and I know what works for me in that size, but I'm not getting enough support from the push-up bras that I used to know and love. They aren't comfortable anymore, but I don't want something boring either. I don't like full-coverage, but I can handle it if I have to. I'm also afraid to buy anything too expensive because I don't know if anything else is going to change. Has anyone gone through this and does anyone who wears a larger cup size have any suggestions? If I have to buy anything else, I'd like to go inexpensive till I reach goal, and although my VS discount is pretty awesome, it's still not cheap.

Thank you ladies so so much for putting up with my incessant questions!
  • I have the same problem! I'm in a 34DD right now and the band is getting a bit loose... but I'm still fitting (overfitting probably) the cups a bit. What I do is wear a tight tank all the time so I don't get spillage out the top of my bra. I know there's probably a better solution but the biggest bra I've seen in town here was like a 30B haha... I don't have anywhere to go get fitted so I have to order online. I'm interested to see what everyone else has to say!

ETA... I can't do anything but full coverage or i fall completely out of my bra (tmi?!) eek.
  • If you are looking for cheaper but sturdy bras, see if you have a Kohls around. They carry a lot of brands like Bali, Olga etc that do DDs and DDDs. Not very sexy but they will do the job.

Lane Bryant also has excellent bras for large cups, and they almost always have a clearance rack, usually with the totally funky colors and patterns that are left over from previous season. Although they technically go down only to a 36, the Cacique line have heavy-duty spandex in them and so some cuts (models? what do they call them in bras?) run small and might work for you. I love 'em and wish they made them in smaller band sizes. VS bras since they discontinued the iPex are just not sturdy enough or the right shape for me; 2 hook-bands are too flimsy, and they make my back fat squoosh out, which the LB 3 and 4-hookers don't. Plus I have to say I still hold kind of a grudge from when I was a teenage DDD and VS didn't carry that cup size.
  • A good bra is not only important in how your clothes fit but are good for the health of your breasts and your posture as well.

No diss on VS but I never got a good fitting there when I used to shop there. I didn't get a proper fitting until I went to a real undergarment store - they're not fancy looking stores and it seems like they mostly sell granny underwear. You'll be fitted by a mean looking older lady probably named Helga who will tell you that you are 3 cup sizes bigger than what you think you are. You will then begin to cry as she brings in the ugliest bras (harnasses is more like it) you've ever seen. But don't be frightened, the truth is that a good bra will make you look better in your clothes.

Being a 36G I know the horrors of ugly bras, but I've never felt better and more supported. If you haven't lost much weight in your bust then you probably won't. You're already pretty thin and unless you get emaciated down to 110 you won't lose too much more in that area.

This has SO been my experience!! LOL The "girls" exploded after the birth of dd, and I was in agony trying to fit into any bra I owned. Couldn't find anything retail that fit me, either. My mom took me to a store called "Forms Boutique" in which the only colors were white or nude, and the only fabrics were stiff cottons.

Yes, "Helga" came into the fitting room, looked distastefully at my cute little lacy DDD bra and offered to throw it away. I went from a 38DDD to a 42F that day, and my bra cup would cover a grown woman's head from ear to ear.
  • Goodforme - HILARIOUS!!!!

It would appear mine are doing something I don't know. I thought they were shrinking but when I try on a smaller band I need bigger cups. I was wearing a 42c. Well now I have on a 38d. I may try on a 38c to see it the padding in the cups (which I hate) is compensating and I really need smaller cups. That will be my plan for this week. Finding my real bra size.
  • Bra shopping is one of the things I hate the most. Every time I go I get frustrated and upset because nothing fits right. I was always a 34C then I gained weight, so I had to go to a 36D. Its not much compared to the Fs and Gs, but I could imagine the horrible experience.

I get irritated at the PADDED bras in a D cup. Why would I want to add more? I just want them to stay in the bra, Not be pushed up into my chin.
  • It could be how you gained weight and where it went. It sounds like you gained on top of your pectoral muscles but under the breast tissue. I would also recommend getting fitted in a store that specializes in underwear, not just cute ones. In America, there is something of a stigma on large bra sizing...it kinda follows the same vein of vanity sizing. this article really shines some light on the situation http://www.knickersblog.com/americas...r-cup-bras/986. the nice thing about this website in general is that they do at times have coupons for businesses.
  • I am 36Dish.

My boyfriend was so sick of my crappy bras - ALL THAT GIVE ME SUPPORT - he ordered me a bunch of stuff from VS. I love it, it looks great, but it sucks keeping the girls in. Sometimes I used to even wear TWO bars! LOL

My solution... those stupid bar clips you see on TV. I got some off ebay - much cheaper and have even seem them in the dollar store. They seem to make the nice stuff better. Still wouldn't wanna run in this stuff.

Probably one of my fav bras from VS is the bio fit, lift and separate or something, I dunno. All the rest kinda smash them together like a uni-boob.

I do have one push up bra from fredricks of hollywood - that I love. It is fantastic. This it's this style.

For the price of shipping to Canada all these places charge it is cheaper to fly to vegas and just buy them. An FYI to other Canadians, lol.

Yes! I was stunned at my first real bra fitting 6 years ago to find out my correct bra size was 42H! My current size is 34GG, and I yearn to wear something other than my industrial strength bras so went to local specialty store (the VS lady had already sent me on my way when I asked where cup size GG might be located and Lane Bryant band sizes don't go down to 34). The fitter took one look at what I was wearing and said straight out that she could not put me in anything "prettier" as I needed that support.

    Sigh...

But fully clothed my bustline at 50 looks a whole lot better than it did at 30 when I was wearing the wrong size with no support.
  • Thanks for the advice. I'm going to see if I can find somewhere like what you were talking about just to see what they have to say. To be honest, they teach you bra fitting like the first day of training. It's hard to fit yourself, and you never know if the girl measuring you at VS knows what she is doing or not or is fudging numbers to make people feel better (they actually tell us to do that for women who are a size or two larger than what we carry. Not so great...). I'd rather have to deal with a not-so-sexy bra to wear during the day than have them start sagging and hurting my back or spilling everywhere. Besides, I can always wear the sexier, not so supportive stuff for things other than daytime wear. =P

As if I needed any more reasons not to go to VS, thanks for sharing this candid yet horrifying practice. And let's get one thing straight, they don't urge you to fudge numbers to "make people feel better" they do it so that they sell bras, even if it doesn't fit.

VS has become such a dissappointment in recent years. I remember 10-15 years ago they had beautiful curvy models in their catalogues. We couldn't wait to get our catalogues in the mail and we used to shop there all the time. But now they have these really skinny non-descript models who couldn't sell me a bra if it was free.
  • TitleNine.com is incredible. I've made calls to them (36 kinda-almost B), and I've had friends call who are up into the DDDs. They test their bras themselves, and have even had a few specifically designed for them. The majority are sports bras, but they also have a bunch that are nice for when you don't intend to be doing high-impact activities.

Yeah, pretty much. I feel horrible about doing that to people, especially since the return policy states that if you take the tag off, we can't take it back. Really, who is going to try on their bra AGAIN when they get home or wear it for a day before taking off the tags unless they know that? Don't even get me started on how they train us to make sales.

Plus, I'm a little annoyed with them because I switched stores from one in a middle class neighborhood to one at a very high end mall where most of the people are supermodel-esque. They first started putting me in the back a lot even though I was hired as a floor associate, and then quit scheduling me altogether. I'm still in the system, but they never give me work-- and I am not dumb. I know why. Oh, well. I'll be healthy and sexy again soon and I don't need them anymore.

Aaaanyway, sorry for going off topic. ICU, I like a lot of the stuff I'm seeing on TitleNine.com... the clothes too! Thanks for the tip!
  • I've been wearing "fruit of the loom" sport bras. all I have to worry about is rib cage size. I promised dh and myself that I will buy real bras when I get to my goal weight. For now they're doing the job and they're very comfortable. Don't need to worry about adjusting straps or anything. I wear the ones where the straps are much like string tank-tops...very concealable.
