Pasta

  • Which is a better option for a diabetic the Dreamfields pasta or Whole wheat? Maybe something totally different or not at all. TIA
  • Around here, I can't get Dreamfields but Googled it. It is supposed to have fewer digestible carbs than regular pasta. I would try both and monitor the effects.
  • Yes, I agree, thanks for the reply.
  • Let us know which spike sugars more. I can't get dreamfields either but would order online if its useful.
  • My husband can't stand whole wheat pasta, and we can't get Dreamfields around here.

We do, however, have Barilla Plus, which is a protein/fiber enhanced pasta. Their angel hair seems comparable to Dreamfields spaghetti in regards to calories, carbs, fiber, and protein.

I can eat half a cup of angel hair without too much bg spike (especially if it's my only carb for that meal).

I also like using pasta substitutes... like spaghetti squash or ribbons of zucchini, steamed and served with sauce like pasta. This works especially well if I have my protein on top of it. Chicken parmesan is great on zucchini "noodles"! Yum!
  • great idea synger

Thank you for the suggestion. I might have to try one of these the next time DH wants spaghetti. He has had diabetes for about 20 years. He's always taken his meds, but hasn't watched his foods. He had started feeling bad so I made him an appointment with my Endocrinologist and cancelled the appointment with the our GP. He is now taking more of a proactive approach. Hopefully he will stay on this new track. The new Dr. changed his meds, he has made some changes, and he is already feeling better in less than 2 weeks.
