OT: Any guitarists out there?

  • Just wonderin' who shares the same interests, and what you like playing? I'm actually a big fan of anything acoustic; country music, worship, Irish, etc. And I'm always trying to learn new kids songs. Basically hear something I like and I'll try and figure out the chords or look it up. It's fun!

My guitar playing is actually helping me with my weightloss, because it gives me something to do when I'm bored, or especially to relieve stress! Also, when I'm playing guitar often, this may sound funny, but it keeps me drinking my water. You can't sing on a dry throat, and if I don't drink enough water during the day my throat will get so sore!

It's not always a viable option, you know, but it's a little quirk that's helping me out and I'm really enjoying it, and getting much better. I actually played for some friends for the first time last week and they were surprised! And I love playing for the kids I work with; gets them singing and dancing. I love looking after kids and pretending to be Maria von Trapp.
  • I play the clarinet, but my bf plays guitar. He likes to play metal (because its hard) and this is his favorite video he loves to show everyone of him. He actually lost a ton of weight, you can tell by comparing his most recent videos with his old videos. He went from in the 200s to about 170.
  • I play the guitar I like to play metal too!!
  • I've played a little.
  • I play a little bit, I'm self taught. I'd love to play more but can't afford lessons and don't have a lot of time to practice right now. Mostly I play country and gospel and oldies because they're easier. Sometimes I like to challenge myself with a metal song tho (not that it's ever very good).

What kind of guitar does everyone play? I have an old Yamaha acoustic that used to be my dad's that he gave me for my 10th birthday. I also play my husband's Fender Telecaster, nothing special but it gets the job done.

aliquot~ I play clarinet too (among other things)! I picked it up my sophomore year of HS, was second chair my junior year.
  • Lotta clarinetists here too I see! I've actually been playing the clarinet for 15 years now! Love it! But you can't sing while playing so yes, guitar.

I'm self taught too, and only been going at it for a few months. Never tried anything metal, though, but I guess I don't listen to that type of music so it wouldn't be obvious for me to learn it. I have a Durado acoustic guitar. Passed down to me from my dad... he got it when he was like 14 so uhm... 45 years old or so.
  • I am a terrible guitar player. Awful. Guitar instruction was a required class for my major and I really did want to be good, but I never picked it up. I have many years of classical training in flute under my belt and I suspect that's why. That's a lot of muscle memory to change.

That's awesome that you play for kids. It's good for their brains
  • I just started to teach myself to play, and I would also like to play metal

    Heres my baby:
  • I just started playing acoustic. I suck but it's great fun!
  • My boyfriend is amazing at guitar..
Im more of a piano person myself.
  • I've been playing cello for hmm....I guess 10 years now...wow. I can also play violin, viola, upright bass, electric bass, and I'm learning guitar, although I'm not too great yet. lol
  • I'm teaching myself how to play the bass guitar. I suck at it lol, but you're right, it's great to play when I'm bored.
