New kid on the block

  • Hey everyone!

I'm here because I know exactly how to lose weight but I just don't do it. I am about 165 and would like to be at about 135-140 in the long run, but just fitting into my jeans would be fantastic for now, lol

I am a senior in college and live in an apartment with two of my best friends, who don't make healthy decisions or eat well at all. I have tried to get them on board for this weight loss journey, but they say that they aren't too concerned about their weight right now... so I guess I am going it alone.

I have been thinking about checking out a Zumba class. Is it difficult for beginners?

How do you keep going with your weight loss while surrounded by temptations? Those chocolate no-bake cookies look too good to resist!! LOL
  • Hey welcome!

You say you know exactly how to lose weight, but just don't do it. Let me throw a wrinkle into that statement..

Perhaps you know how others lose weight, but you don't have plan for what works for you to lose weight.

I'm a big believer in having to build a personalized plan that accounts for the unique challenges in each of our lives. For you for example one of your biggest challenges is obviously your roommates.

I would suggest starting with directly attacking that problem. Build behaviors that will help like the following (obv change to whatever fits your situation)...

    1. I will ask and enforce my roommates not just keeping food lying out and around. Food will be kept in cabinets or fridge or designated food storage.

    2. We will have separate shelves for our food and I will only eat food options from my shelves no matter what.

    3. I will only eat shared meals if we have agreed to it ahead of time and it fits into my calorie budget. Otherwise I will eat on my own.

    Etc...

Also I've found that the best way to resist temptation is to rigorously calorie count count. When you see those no-bake cookies have little nutritional value and take up a full meal's worth of your calorie allowance it is easier to limit or pass them up. It's when you don't think about the choice and mindlessly pop in 2-3 whenever you walk past them that you get into trouble.

Welcome! Good luck in your journey.
  • Welcome!

Keeping motivated has always been a big problem for me too. Especially when I'm stressed and I really want to eat. Which is like now.

Hope you find this forum useful! I have! =)
