Little NSV...turning down food

  • I surprised myself today. I had food budgeted into my calories, I was going to have 2 cups of V8 broccoli soup (160 cal) and some chicken for lunch. The suggested serving size of the soup is 1 cup, but it's low cal so I sometimes budget in two cups. Well I got home from my workout, all excited for lunch, and I poured a cup of soup in my bowl and thought "hmm, that looks like plenty enough food right there." Normally, I eat every morsel I budget in, if I'm full or not. So today was kind of an interesting feeling to actually recognize that I wasn't that hungry and cut back on some food.

Anybody else finding that you're learning to listen to your body more? Eat when you're hungry until you're satisfied instead of eating just to eat (even if it is planned).
  • Absolutely! I've always been a member of the clean plate club, so I have really shocked myself and being able to know when I am full and have the power to put down the utensil! It's all a part of eating to live versus living to eat. I haven't yet tried any of the V8 soups, any recommendations?
  • Yep, me too. If I leave something on my plate on my own accord and not by forcing myself, it's a big deal. Or taking a smaller portion than I was anticipating/allowing myself.

I like the V8 soups quite a bit. They're kinda pricey, and somewhat high in sodium (what soup isn't? lol), but they're creamy and thick and filling. The ones I always get is the broccoli soup (80 cal/cup) or the butternut squash soup (90 cal/cup). The others look yummy, but they're higher calories.
  • Congratulations! That's a fantastic NSV! It's so hard to not eat everything you budgeted for :-)
  • Wow thats great....Can't wait till i'm able to eat when i'm satisfied. Even eating healty i feel like i have to clean the plate
  • Yes it's an interesting feeling huh? In the past I have been planning my calories for dinner the next day and just to make sure I got "enough" I would budget for 6 oz of chicken or whatever we were eating that night because 4 oz just sounded so small. Then, surprise surprise, when I weighed it on the scale 1 piece of chicken, which is plenty of food, was barely 4 oz. I was really quite surprised that I could be full off that but I have come to realize that I don't need as much food as I thought to feel full and that's pretty exciting.

And those V8 soups sound pretty good I'll have to try them!
