need to get back on the wagon

  • I started my weight loss journey at the beginning of the year. My husband and I are headed for Puerto Rico at the end of the summer, and I want to be thinner and healthier so I can ENJOY our trip!

At the beginning of February, our six year old daughter started having absense seizures, 2 weeks later was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Her surgery was on February 19th. The tumor was removed sucessfully and she is recovering beautifully!

Needless to say, the stress caused me to get lax in my healthy eating habits and excercise. Plus a 5 day hospital stay with my daughter didn't help matters any, where the cafeteria food can be greasy and fatty. When we returned home, friends and co-workers brought dinners over. That was a huge blessing, but it's hard to eat healthy when you're not cooking the food.

Now, we have been home for 2 weeks and I can not seem to get myself back on track! Not making blatantly bad choices, just snacking lots (a piece here, a piece there) which can be even worse.

I know what I need to do, just need to do it! Anyone have advice on how to get myself re-focused?!
  • Make a list- go to the store- buy all the healthy stuff you need, and start cooking again. Snacks are fine as long as they are healthy. If you have lots of junky foods take it to work (or give it to your husband to take to work). Out of sight, out of mind.

    Good luck

I'm glad your daughter is doing well

First of all I'm very happy to hear that your daughter is recovering. I know exactly how you're feeling though. In 2006 my husband was diagnosed w/cancer and my version of a normal life went to ****. In 2008 he relapsed and went through 8 months of chemo and 7 surgeries. Long days at the hospital, people dropping by constantly w/casseroles....it's a tough go when you're battling weight issues.

The one piece of advice I can give to you is to allow yourself to fall back into a proper rhythm. When something that dramatic happens in life and disrupts everything you know it takes a little bit to get back on track. You'll get there though. When things start falling back into place and normal routines begin to resume you'll be comfortable enough to start taking care of yourself again.
