  • I am completely obsessed with making lettuce wraps, anyone else? They are so low calorie!

I carefully peal off two outer layers of a head of lettuce and lay them on top of each other. Then i put in turkey, provolone, onions, and sprouts, sometimes spinach.

    Yum! Under 150 calories too

I need more ideas though for things to put in my lettuce wraps. Any ideas?
  • chicken lettuce wraps. mmm. or tuna, if you like tuna
  • There's a "hot" kind that Chinese people eat. It's like minced chicken with bamboo shoots and water chest nuts and onions and bean sprouts with this really yummy sauce, and really low in cal if you make it with no oil.
  • Tacos with ground turkey are great in lettuce...saves a lot of calories using lettuce wraps instead of tortillas
  • WOW! Love this idea! Definately going to be trying this!
  • Sounds like an awesome idea, going to try this for sure!
  • Yes, they do sound like san chow boy. I love those

    Very yum!
  • Gar - you just gave me an idea of what to make for lunch this week
  • Fish Tacos.....Fish, Avocado, Onion, Tomatoes & Cilantro! Yum!
  • Thanks for all the great ideas!

stellarose - haha thanks, your facebook status always give me great ideas for what to eat lol

mollewogg - YUM, the ingredients are going on my next grocery list, I can't wait!
  • mmmmm... lettuce wraps!! I forgot all about them.... what an excellent idea! Thanks! I like tuna on them or making "tacos" as well!
  • not sure if anyone has ever tried "sam gyeop sal" it's korean lettuce wraps.

usually you eat them with grilled thick cut bacon. which is not healthy. hah

but i like to eat them w/o meat.

basically. dark green lettuce leaf, sesame leaf on top of it. then put in some kimchi or any kind of korean vegetable, bit of rice, maybe some tofu if you want. (i really like it with grilled kimchi)

and add a little bit of "ssam jang" (korean chili bean curd mixture)

fold it up into a tiny like pouch and pop it in your mouth.

    amazing
  • Oh my goodness, how have I never thought of this before? Do you use iceberg, or romaine, or what? Is one type better than another? I'm thinking that this would be an amazing way to add some more veggies to my day, and cut out the carbs of bread (or even wraps) that tend to go unburned after lunch. Lunch is my difficult meal because my afternoons are my most sedentary time, but if I don't eat a filling meal I have to fight the urge to binge around snacktime and before dinner. I'm definitely going to try this, with turkey and sprouts, with egg salad, with tuna, etc. I can't wait!
  • This is a fabulous idea! I love making wraps - it's quick and easy and not really messy. But, I could never find a low-cal tortilla (I use the large size). I'd managed to cut the calories down to 190 per wrap, but the tortilla itself was 160 of that, and it adds so much sodium!

Using the actual lettuce itself would be brilliant. I can up the protein content, and add in a few other items without increasing the calorie count.
  • Stellart - I've made those before but I use lean beef or chicken breast with marinade. Hm, will put that on my list of things to make a recipe for soon
