McDonalds partners with Weight Watchers.

  • Has anyone seen this article:

    http://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local...-86342797.html

They are basically offering some 6.5 pt meals to their menu and the ww logo will be on menus/packaging ect.

Thoughts? Good idea, or do you think that you would go there with the intention of getting the ww menu, but be tempted by something else or spend lunch stealing fries off of your friends trays?
  • I think this is only happening in New Zealand right now. But I generally think it's a good thing. Even though many would (and do) argue that no way is McDonald's health food, I think any additional nutritional information provided by a restaurant is good. For me as a WWer, I especially love it when that information is the points!

I did look up the points of a filet-o-fish, and with tartar sauce it's 10, without, it's 7. I'm thinking the WW-approved version is simply the plain sandwich. If people are going to skip the regular filet-o-fish and go for the WW-endorsed model, that will save them a fair amount of fat and calories. (Of course, one doesn't need WW on an item to skip the extras, but I don't know how many people do that).

So I think it is a good move-it might not make people eat "healthy" but it might help them eat "healthIER."
  • I think any thing they want to do to help dieters is a good thing for us and for them.
  • I would agree if nutrition information wasn't available previously for the food, and is now available, giving people more information. But McDonald's has had nutrition information out there for a while, so people have already been able to calculate points or calories.

As such, the Weight Watchers endorsement doesn't really -add- anything of value for those watching calories, and it detracts from overall goals of healthfulness by promoting McD's higher-processed, higher-fat, higher-sodium foods as "endorsed" by WW, and therefore "healthy".
  • Wish it was available where I live lol. I cant even look at a mcdonalds without gaining weight...or is that burger king? lol
  • Hmmm... I wonder... Is that the reason behind 3fc's icon? *laughs*
  • I live in New Zealand and it is available here. Its great!

Just knowing there is that extra option available if I cant be bothered cooking lol.
Also my boyfriend is quite a fan of McDonalds so I can now go with him and hes not missing out.

It is really taking off here.
  • Here's a reason NOT to patronize Mickey D's in the US:
