Hello!

  • Hi everyone! My name is Karen and I think I may be addicted to sugar. Yet again.

I'm currently at 250 pounds, but started out over 100 pounds heavier at 360. Most of the weight was lost pretty gradually through more sensible eating and exercise, and I've lost the very last 35 pounds since the time I signed up here this summer.

I felt I was doing really good, completely giving up soda and other simple carbs. But when I got sick in December/January with the stomach flu, it seemed the only thing I could keep down was 7-up. While I haven't gotten back to drinking soda, I've had horrible cravings for carbs ever since that I've caved into way too many times, especially for chocolate chip cookies of all things!

My weight loss has completely stalled on me since coming out of being sick, and I've been reading around and looking for ways to shake things up. I'm thinking that Atkins might be right for me. I'm currently reading a 2002 edition of the New Diet Revolution and plan on finishing it up before officially starting.

My only real concern at this point is diving into this while knowing I'm not much of a meat person, but I'm willing to give the induction my all for two weeks and see how I'm doing from there.

Anyway, I've been lurking for a bit in this section and just wanted to say hi to everyone!
  • Well, glad to have you in our corner of the playground. You know. maybe once you see how good you feel after eliminating starches, you might be a meat person after all. At least you are willing to try something new instead of following the same plan and wondering why its not working.
  • Hi there Sirenity! Welcome!

I wasn't much a meat eater either -- in fact, I hadn't touched the stuff in a few years when I decided my eating was so out of whack that I was missing vital nutrients and that those awful cravings were my body's way of trying to compensate for what I wasn't giving it. My energy level is now often through the roof compared to before. I hope you will find the same to be true for you.

Good to have you around here!
  • Thank you very much! I've officially started today, and already have my first hurdle . . . eating out for the birthday of a family member (which I hadn't exactly planned on just yet). But it's all good, I'll have to deal with such thing regardless, plus since I know where we're going I'm able to check out the menu ahead of time and found something that will easily work with the plan.

And I can't wait to get rid of these carb cravings!
  • I've got three words for you: buffalo chicken wings. Unless its a nice place, then they probably won't have wings. In which case a nice fillet of something, a salad and a green vegeble.
  • Hey Sirenity welcome!
  • Welcome! I hope you will find this WOE as beneficial as the rest of us have! I hope it takes away your cravings and gives you lots of energy and good health and I hope that you will reach your goal weight!
  • Hi Serenity, welcome

I wasn't a big meat eater when I started either (a few times I made dinner for the family & completely forgot to make a meat dish...). I ate a lot of eggs and chicken at first (now I eat more kinds of meat, and more often). I just felt so much better after going low-carb, it was an easy switch for me to make permanent.
    Good luck
