Hi! happy to be here, I can do it this time...or can I???

  • Hi there, I'm sooo very frustrated with my weight, I don't know what to do with myself. I just cant' seem to stay on track long enough to loose any weight, but I know I have to. I have been on so many diet plans, it makes my head spin. every few months I tell myself, this time for sure I will do it, but I fail miserably.
    I always have a focus, the most recent one was I was getting married, and of course I WAS going to loose weight for that, but no, there I was fat as can be.
    Im always announcing to my family, "This time for sure, I'm doing this and I will loose weight, but it has gotten to the point where they just snicker(ooohh snickers..mmmm) and roll their eyes.
    Now I'm telling myself that I need to do this, so I can actually fit properly in the amusement park rides this summer, without my butt getting stuck in the seat. (yes, it's happened before, Disney, rocket ship ride, it wasn't pretty.)
    Or maybe going to the beach, being able to wear a actual bathing suit, instead of shorts and a t-shirt, because I'm too embarrased.
    I recently tried weight watchers for 1 month, lost 10 pounds the first week, then somehow managed not only to gain back the 10, but a few extra, and I was being careful!!

    well your thread title is a little self-defeating, that's kind of a bummer...sounds like your first step is really owning the process. You are in control, you are in charge, of successes and failures. Think about those behaviors and own them.

    View the previous failures (which most of us have had) as a wealth of information about yourself and what works.

    While many on here, with good cause, will espouse a particular plan, I personally am a big believer in building yourself a custom plan focusing on the simple calories in < calories out equation.

    Build a plan that works for you, your strengths and weaknesses. Maybe you are better at controlling portion sizes than limiting food choices...maybe you enjoy cooking, maybe you don't. Make a list of all the things that are enablers to you in this journey (i.e. I do the shopping, I have a gym close, etc.). Then make a list of all barriers (i.e. I travel a lot, I'm really bad at leaving food on my plate).

    Then build your plan based on behaviors that use your strengths and limit your weaknesses.

    I know I am terrible at being able to leave food on my plate, so one of my behaviors is to not have the food on the table, but portion it out in the kitchen, put away the remainder, and then eat.

    Regardless of what you choose to do realize that you need to first focus on happening to your life, instead of your life happening to you...

  • Welcome! I am new here also and started my journey only this morning, but so far so good! Best of luck to you in your own quest, and hopefully you'll get lots of support here from everyone!!
  • I will suggest you start by walking for 30 minutes and giving one of the meals for a more healthy choice for at least two weeks, then you can start making more restriction to your meals / snack choice. If you do this you will see result, slowly but it won’t be so hard that you would feel like giving up on the 3rd day. Good luck and remember loosing weight is not only about looking good but being healthy.

  • Coming from another up and downer I have learned not tell my family I am going on a diet. When I don't lose it just cause me frustration. So now I am not really saying anything just doing what I need to for my plan and not saying anything to friends or family.
