Acai berry?

  • Anyone has experience of Acai berry? I have heard a lot, but no idea is it worth to try?
  • Depends on what you expect. If you're looking for it to "do anything" except taste good, don't waste you're money.

It's just a berry that contains a lot of antioxidants. There are plenty of fruits, especially berries that are just as rich in antioxidants (or nearly so and much less expensive). Antioxidants are healthy, but they're not magic, and eating a variety of berries (and fruit in general) is a better way to get antioxidants and other the fruit nutrients than juice. Whether in whole fruit or juice, choosing variety is a better health strategy than sinking alot of money into the uber-hyped ones (that are very expensive).
  • I concur that stuff doesn't really work for weight loss- and if anything does happen once you get off of it you gain the weight back and then some.

thanks for info. Anyway I will now try it for weeks. I will post my results
  • I basically don't trust anything that relies on spam to do its marketing for it. And I've seen a lot of spam advertising acai!
  • Acai gave me insomnia. I could take it as soon as I woke up in the morning and I'd still be wired late into the evening.
  • My dad has had high blood pressure for about 20+ years and is on medication for it. Diabetes runs in his family and he's been borderline but trying to control his sugar for the past 4-5 years.
He was drink the Acai Berry stuff for about 3 weeks and his blood sugar shot through the roof! It's been really high now for about a month and he's tried EVERYTHING to get it to go down. This was the only change in diet he made and since he stopped taking it it stopped rising but it hasn't gone down at all.

I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

It's FRUIT JUICE, of course it will increase blood sugar. It's not at all unusual for diabetics with very good control of their blood sugar to have this kind of reaction to any sudden increase in high sugar foods (if it had been candy bars or another type of juice it would be the same).

Once blood sugar gets elevated it can take several weeks to get back under control, even after stopping the high sugar food. This is true whether you're talking about natural sugars (in fruits, juices, and grains) or processed ones like sugar and hfcs.
