My Two-week Weigh-in

  • Well, it's hard to believe, but my first two weeks is done and behind me. My total weightloss for the 14 days of induction is 17lbs! I lost about 15 of those pounds during the first 10 days and the other two during the last 4...the normal slow-down.

My cravings are minimal and I kinda cheated twice...both times with Bacardi and Diet Coke. I must've got lucky because it didn't seem to affect my induction. I am currently in the "moderate" level of ketosis, which I hear is great.

Aside from posting my results, I want to thank everyone for answering my questions, sharing experiences, and offering advice...just a heads up, I'm full of questions and I'll be bugging you all quite a bit before I'm done with this endevour...
  • Congratulations, your progress so far is amazing!
  • Excellent!!! I've got three days left on Induction, and I've lost 7 lbs so far myself. Isn't this great? Woooohoo!!!
  • OH, PS -- I wanted to PM you about the PDF for iPhone, but I can't find a way to PM?
  • Firefly, the PM function is not available to new registrations until you have been here for 20 days and have 20 posts. It's coming soon!

Congratulations, SaskNewf, that's a great and most encouraging loss.
  • Jason! congrats on the weight loss Some people can drink Diet Coke and keep losing....for some, the artificial sweeteners can slow them down. I don't consider that cheating. lol ! keep up the good work!

The Diet Coke was mixed with Bacardi...lol.

    Thanks everyone!
  • Jason, you are doing great! Isn't this wonderful?

Pretty soon, after you are completely finished with your cold, you will probably notice that you have more energy than usual, etc. Most of us see those benefits anyway. And, if you have been suffering from blood pressure a little higher than you'd like to see it, you might very well see the blood pressure go down into a better range. I did anyway - went from about 145-150/90 to 113/80 in just four weeks of eating this way.

I am still in the post-induction stall. Or, I should say, I'm still working on the 5 lbs. that my body decided to gain back in water weight (went on literally in a couple of days when I wasn't eating many carbs or calories so I know it was water weight.) I'm no longer as puffy - my body is adjusting - I've lost 2.2 lbs. of the excess weight so far and hope to lose the other 2.8 lbs. by the end of February or the first week of March.

Just warning the newbies, this isn't unheard of, to stall or gain back a few in water weight. Your body gets dehydrated those first two weeks, panics, and sends out antidiuretic hormones to try to get some of that water back. Some people stall for 3-5 weeks, some people like me even gain a couple three pounds back.

Please don't get discouraged during those 3-6 weeks of stall time. Your body is working so hard, still losing fat steadily, and you will probably notice your body shifting and reshaping itself during that time. Your body kind of has to have some time to adjust to losing this weight, before it's ready for the scale to go down again.

And that's okay. Because on this "diet" (I think of it as a way of eating rather than a diet, hence the quote marks) you aren't starving all the time, you aren't fighting with cravings every minute of the day (cravings might pop up here or there, but they won't be overwhelming like they are on other diets) and you just plain old feel better than normal instead of worse than normal like you do with most diets.

So the thing is, you can do this diet forever. It's not so hard. So since it's not so hard, you won't really mind if the weight doesn't come off all in the first month. You know that if you keep on the path, it will come off, and your body will become fitter and healthier.

I like to pick a date in the future - lately I have been thinking the first week of June - and tell myself to see how things are progressing then. I'm thinking by the first week of June, we will all have made visible progress towards our goals.

Firefly, you are doing awesome too! Let's all just keep on going, and see where we are when summer comes!
  • Jason...well at least you had Diet Coke with your Bacardi and not a "real" Coke! LOL!

Lori....that was so eloquently said You have been a motivating force on this board for me. You know how to explain things without coming across as being bossy or condescending. Reading things in a book about this WOE is one thing but speaking with others going through it is quite another and is really encouraging! I'm so happy for you that your blood pressure has come down.....as you know...so many problems can stem from high blood pressure. I love how you explain the "stall" and how we can overcome that and keep moving on!

Firefly....great news! keep up the good work!
  • Thank you so much, Leslie Lou! I love reading your posts too because you are so kind and have such a great attitude towards all of this. I know you are going to reach your goal because you have such a good attitude, and patience, and you were willing to endure the discomfort and cravings of the first couple of weeks or so. Now you are through the hardest part of the diet - the first two to three weeks - and it's smooth sailing from here on out, as long as you hang on to that patient attitude!
  • Lori, great point about the plateau -- I plateaued just after my first 3 weeks of losses when I started low carb, and several times since then. Each and every time being patient has paid off. And I alawys notice the clothes getting loose during the plateau, not when I'm losing again.

Jason - major congratulations, that's great news - you're off to a great start.

And to anyone else reading of his amazing loss turning green with envy : I NEVER had big losses on low carb, but by sticking with it and having a normal life I lost 35 pounds since last March - and went through a really hard year to boot, so don't give up if you don't get the big loss in the early weeks.
