Hello Ladies and 'Gents!

I was at the grocery store today and there are about a million kinds of bacon here, probably because of where I live in Canada, but being that I'm Canadian there was no "Canadian Bacon".

Therefore, Bacon back is the plan allowed one right? and Side is the not allowed?

Yes, I am 99% sure our Canadian bacon is your back bacon. Also, turkey bacon is allowed, which is what I use. Canadian bacon seems more like ham to me than bacon.

Bacon in the US is neither side nor back bacon, it's almost always made from the belly (I believe what's often called streaky bacon outside the USA).

It's the fat content that is the issue, so pick whichever bacon has the highest meat to visible fat ratio.

In our area of northcentral Wisconsin, we're lucky to get a few more bacon choice than most of the country (I've been told). Especially from the small meat shops. I was so surprised to find bacon in strips that had almost no visible fat (I was raised in Illinois where you either had strips of bacon that were three times as much fat as lean, or canadian bacon which was indistinguishable from ham except it was cut in small circles).

Up here it's peameal or back bacon. Our regular bacon is just called 'bacon' but the British refer to it as streaky bacon.

Peameal/Canadian/back bacon is allowed on Phase I. I still can't find a turkey bacon that I like! Let me know if you do.

I just have to say that I got a chuckle out of this thread. Why do we even call it Canadian bacon if it isn't from Canada?

I love the Butterball Thin and crispy turkey bacon Ruth. DW thinks it's too thin but I like my "regular" bacon cripsy and well done so it's good by me. Have you tried it?

Ruth - Canadians unite in the quest for bacon! There is apparently only one brand (Maple Leaf) of turkey bacon sold here and at one of our many grocery stores, I tried it and wasn't a fan. I'll let you know if I find one that doesn't have the texture of paper when its cooked.

I love my turkey bacon! I don't know the brand...it's the one with the south beach logo on it. It's horrible if it's not cooked enough though...maybe that's your problem?

If I burn it...that means it cooked right? :P
