I was supposed to host a brunch this morning. Was supposed to be a bunch of moms and kids so I have some non particularly ummm friendly food. In short I have a big pot of real hot cocoa, a pound of cooked bacon, a loaf of cinnamon swirl bread (that is apparently saturated in butter because the calories are crazy) and a jug of OJ. Thawed some mini loaves of friendship bread I had in the oven.
Then the emails started coming (not that I saw them until I was all set up with all the food hot and served). Apparently some nasty stomach bug is going around the schools and it looks like no one is coming. Maybe 1 person who had said she is going to be late.
Who's gonna eat this stuff?
You could definitely freeze the bacon and the cinnamon swirl bread.
Find a shelter to donate it to?
Ooooooooooo what a bad situation!!! I'd say freeze as much as you can, I know bread freezes really well, esp. if you double bag it. Or you could take some to neighbors.
I would bring the cinnamon swirl and friendship breads to work tomorrow to pass the butter on to your coworkers (or if you're at home with the kids, send it with hubby). Then I'd find some sorta-healthy recipes to use the beverages in: like freeze the hot cocoa in popsicle molds for the kids and bake up some orange-juice-sweetened granola for yourself (bonus: if you have a ton of popsicles on your hands you could take them 'round to the other moms to help keep the sick ones hydrated).
The bacon I would just throw away or feed to the dogs. You could technically keep some to crumble on salads or bake into a frittata for the family, but for anything other than flavoring, the saturated fat is just not worth it.
