i decided when i start Jan. 1st that i wouldnt weight myself for the forst 6 weeks and then once a month after that. I'm finding it hard to stay away from the scale, not knowing what Im losing or if what I am doing is working. Do any of you wait to weigh too? and how do you stay inspired in the mean time?
I've gone from weighing once a week to once a month and it works great for me. I see larger results when I do weigh and I also avoid seeing those annoying fluctuations (for instance: why even weigh the week of your period or the week before if you know it's going to show all that water weigh? Unecessary torture, to me). All month long, I am thinking about my weigh in day and how many opportunities I have in that month to get to my goal. Less anxiety for me.
And hey, you can always start by weighing every day and go to weighing less or vice versa. It all just depends. I don't find it difficult to resist the scale, but that's just me.
Hey, I'm trying to wait too. That being said, I've weighed myself the past 4 days in a row-sometimes 2 times in the same day. That scale just keeps calling my name! I might have my roomie hide it from me for a while.
I'm trying to wait because I'm someone where the numbers have an impact on how I diet. I eat for a variety of reasons, being hungry isn't really one of them (until now of course). I've come to realize that I use my weight as a shield. If I'm fat and people don't like me-well it's because I'm fat. But if I'm skinny and people don't like me, well then there's actually something wrong with ME. So when I start to get lower, I start to back off of dieting. And then I gain and feel bad about myself, etc.
I'm not trying to lose weight to get to a certain number. I'm going for a certain look and feel. So if I like what I see before my goal weight I'll stop. If I'm not happy until I'm smaller then I'll keep going.
To keep yourself motivated maybe you could measure different parts of your body to see the progress you're making in that way? Or take a pictur a week so that you can see the physical transformation? Either way good luck!
I weigh in every day. Its one of the reasons I go to the gym. I don't own a scale of my own, so if I want to see where I am weight wise - I have to go to the gym.
I weigh every day to stay on track with the understanding that my weight will naturally fluctuate.
But this can be bad for some, and helpful for others.
Try staying away and see if it helps you - you should be focusing on how your body feels and how your clothes fit versus a number on the scale anyways.
But when i'm away from the scale, i fall right off track.
I used to weigh every day, but when I started weighing like four times a day. And I felt like it was fine, until I was starting to get upset when my weight went up when i was wearing jeans, a sweater and had just eaten dinner. So i had my girlfriend hide the scale for the month of January. Its driving me a little crazy, but its the best idea.
That being said, I think a daily weigh in is fine, a weekly weigh-in is fine...whatever works for you is the best choice
