Tummy area after losing 50 lbs, still won't let go of weight!

  • Good morning!

I am on the tail-end of my weight loss! It's kind of a long story (in introductions!) but basically my heighest weight was 187 lbs, and I was overweight for about 6 months total, and now I'm back in the 130's, 135 to be exact.

I would like to be between 115 - 120, but the number isn't TOO important to me, I want to look and feel good.

I have no isses with wanting to lose weight anywere but my stomach. My legs, butt, arms, everything else look very thin, but I cannot seem to lose weight in my belly at all! I also have pretty large breasts for my size, howevr I'll be getting a breast reduction in the near future.

I realize there's no spot treatment to burn fat, but I am doing a high-energy workout on the elliptical 5x a week, as well as counting my calories through sparkpeople.com, and keeping them between 1,200 and 1,500 and almost always hitting my target fat/protein/carb ratio.

My skin is young and able to be thrown around a bit I believe, as besides a few stretchmarks I have no sagging skin. It just sort of looks like I've got a big round stomach, almost very early pregnancy-esque!

Has anyone else who has lost a similar amount of weight dealt with this issue of weight not coming off in one area? It's really sort of odd, and I would love to hear some ideas about how I can go about this in a better way than what I'm doing now...which doesn't seem to be helping!

    Thank you!
  • I don't have a WHOLE lot of advice, because I am nearing my weight goal and my belly and thighs are still not so great! One thing that has helped me in reducing it, I believe, is walking. I try to walk for about an hour at a brisk pace. When I first started losing weight, I had read from an article and from Dr. Oz how walking is a really great all over fat burner, particularly for the belly. My stomach has gone down VERY SIGNIFICANTLY, and I think it is a combo of diet and walking. I also do the elliptical sometimes. For me, I think loose hanging skin is becoming more of an issue than actual fat in that area, but either way there are definitely no bikinis in my future! LOL! Not that I was really planning on wearing one anyway.
  • though I am no where near the level of you, a buddhist principle is that when we store our personal issues instead of dealing with them, we carry that in our stomachs. It is a reminder, that we are able to see clearly, we have not yet taken care of all that we have to.
Have you tried adding in some yoga?
  • Sweetcakes, I love that. I've always carried weight in my stomach, and I can see the validity in that theory. I've also suffered from neck pain, which I think is also partially related to unresolved issues.

Having said all that, as I've lost overall weight, my stomach has gotten back down a bit, although it will probably never be completely flat. I did notice that it helped when I dealt with bloat. I started eating Greek yogurt every day with honey, (the only kind of yogurt I can stand), and that has helped with a long standing constipation problem, (sorry for the TMI).

If you think your stomach issues may be partly attributable to bloat, PinkBlonde, you may try to attack it from that side.
