I have a confession: I'm scared

  • I have been making really good progress. I wanted to try on a new pair jeans that are a 22 because I have every size they make a 22 in and I haven't tried any of them on. When I started I was bout to burst out of a size 22 into a 24. I found this site and the rescue began. No I don't know if I can muster up the strength to try on a pair of non stretch new jean in a 22. Even though the ones I have been wearing that I could breath and sit while wearing them are spacious I don't want to be disappointed. What do I do? I want to try but I don't think I'm ready for the disappointment.
  • Bite the bullet and try them on, of course!

Anecdote: Last week, I was in Walmart and saw some super cute bootcut jeans on sale. They were only $10 (!!!!). BUT they were only a size 16 (!!! all my jeans are 18s). I just bought them. And they sat. And sat. And sat. They looked so much smaller than my 18s, I couldn't figure out how they'd fit.

Well, they did, like a glove.

Even if they hadn't, nothing ventured, nothing gained. If the 22s don't fit, you haven't "failed." You just haven't made it there YET. It will give you a good indicator of how much further you need to go!

All that aside, remember than no two jeans are the same. A 22 is not a 22. Some are bigger or smaller, some are cut differently, some sit funny...because of how they're cut, 2 pairs of the exact same style can be wildly different. So don't get discouraged if one pair doesn't fit. Just grab a different pair.
  • I have to agree--just try them on. You never know....these could be THE pair that you'll love and they will make you feel soooo good.

A couple of days ago I was in a thrift store and saw a pair of 18 Levi's. Now, I can wear some 18's but as we all know the cut of Levi's is not always easy for some of us to wear. But, these Levi's reminded me of my youth and so I tried them, ready to not even get them past my thighs.

Well, guess what? I'm wearing them as I type. There is not spandex in them and still they are comfortable. I love them and plan on living in them until I get down to the next size. And, I would have never known that I'd feel so good in them until I tried them on.

Just do it! If they don't fit, they don't fit. It's okay. They might fit but you don't think they're flattering, that's okay too. It's nothing personal. Not every jean fits every woman. We all know there is no uniformity in jeans, that's why we have to try so many on before we find a pair that works. Been there, done that!

Do it! You might be pleasantly surprised!
  • Hey hun,

I know that feeling of being scared to try on clothes, It's been so long since I have been able to try on certain clothes... I just always shy away! But I think you should give it a try, you never know what you're going to see! There's a high street store that I love but haven't been able to fit into for ages. I went there after having lost a stone and a half and I still couldn't fit into a thing! But I went back on Friday and low and behold I actually fit in their size 16 dresses. But I wouldn't have known unless I'd tried!

Don't be distressed if it's not what you want, you are on the right track and you will definitely fit in them soon.

  • I'm with Altari. Different jeans can be WAY different, and it probably has a lot more to do with the jeans than with you if they don't fit. Try them on and take a chance. What if they are tight? You still get the satisfaction of feeling how loose they'll be in the next few weeks.
