I (RE)Learned An Uncomfortable Lesson Today

  • Today I had a terrible eating day.

I didn't plan ahead and so ate on the run. I didn't eat the many vegetables and fruits I usually do.

This isn't anything new; I KNOW that if I don't plan ahead, I run the risk of making poor food choices, waiting too long to eat, or falling into other pitfalls.

I just wanted to share this in case anyone else relates to this kind of day, and also to be accountable for making less than stellar choices today.

I "over-guestimated" my calories today as I usually do, especially when eating less than nutritious foods, and I still stayed within my calories, but MAN, do I feel CRAPPY after eating this way!!!

    Here's what I had:

9 reduced fat Triscuits and veggie meat slices (250 calories)

20 oz. decaf coffee with cinnamon (10 calories)

1 potato and guacamole burrito with LOTS of green salsa (600 calories)

1 veggie burger with pickles, tomato slices, lettuce, mustard, ketchup, vegan ranch dressing from the organic vegan drive through (420 calories)

1 small serving fries from the organic vegan drive through (300 calories)

2 oz. dark chocolate (300 calories)

20 oz. lightly sweetened with agave tea (120 calories)

68 oz. water throughout the day

So, all in all, not a completely TERRIBLE day, as I kept under my calories, but this isn't a very nutritious day and I feel sick to my stomach! I only hope the sugary, starchy foods eaten today will not cause "rebound" cravings tomorrow.

The lesson (RE)learned, is that I need to put myself first, plan ahead and take the healthy, nutritious foods with me especially when I have busy, stressful days, so that that I will feel satisfied, nourished and not lethargic and irritable.
  • I have to say I'm not sure I really understand this post. If this is your definition of a bad day then you are in great shape overall with your plan

I would also like to know what is served at an organic vegan drive through... web site link?
  • That looks like a maintenence day to me! Plus nothing obscenely unhealthy.

If you get right back on the wagon this shouldn't set you back too much at all!
  • Randomcards, it's called Evolution (the name has changed a lot, it was last called "Nature's Express") http://www.yelp.com/biz/evolution-fa...%27s%20express http://evolutionfastfood.com/

To me, this was a not so great day, as I had fried food, sugar, too many potatoes, white flour in the tortilla on the burrito, too many potatoes and virtually NO green veggies, fruits and beans/legumes! I feel lethargic and tired and heavy and I normally don't feel this way when I plan ahead and eat well.
  • Thanks, Free Spirit! I'm hoping that the weather doesn't get to me (we have crazy storming for Southern California, anyway) and I follow through on getting to the gym tomorrow and right back to healthier eating!
  • I can understand the frustration of not planning. Looks like you made the best possible choices in your circumstances, and I'm sure you do feel a little icky if it turned out to be a more carb heavy day than normal. I always do. Lesson learned, live to pack snacks another day.

I'm totally fascinated by the concept of an organic, vegan drive thru. When I'm not on my iPhone I'm totally checking out the link.
  • I'm still stuck on the fact that you have an organic vegan drive-through!
  • I'm in San Diego too, that means *I* have an organic vegan drive-through!!!!
  • I understand you post, or at least I think I do. Yes, you stayed within your allotted calories, but it looks to me like you ate way to many carbs. I know for me, if I eat to many carbs, for the next couple days, I really have to fight to stay on plan. It's like every type of food that's loaded with carbs just jumps out at me, saying, "eat me, eat me"!! Also, I just feel terrible physically.
  • Oh my gosh, an Organic Vegan Drive-thru???????? Seriously? I have never heard of such a thing!!!
  • Quote: I'm in San Diego too, that means *I* have an organic vegan drive-through!!!!
Me too, Glory, and I've already told a vegetarian friend that we have to try it soon!
  • yeah that drive through sounds so cool, and the potato and guacamole burrito sounds out of this world!
  • Hey...cool, we have the same starting weight. LOL

Glad you (re)learned your lesson. I know *for me* planning ahead was the key to my success.
  • Thanks for the reminder about how important planning ahead is! We all need that reinforcement! All in all though your day didn't look too bad so just get back after it! Have a great day today!
