Third time HAS to be the charm...

  • Well, I am back, for the third time.. I haven't been on here in a while, and there are some changes, I see. =] I've been making some changes, as well... suppose I should just tell my story here to get it out, yes?

I went to the doctor yesterday to have a physical done. My doctor (well, she's actually a nurse practitioner) told me that I NEED to lose weight because I have a high risk of developing diabetes or heart- related problems. She ordered some blood tests to be taken, and I went in today to have them done.. about a half hour ago, I got a call saying that my triglycerides are at 194, and they should be below 136. Yikes!
I started looking on this site again last night, thinking I might pick up a few tips here and there to losing a bit of weight.... but now I'm scared. I don't want to be sick, I don't want health problems. I went to a counselor for the first time last night (as recommended by the nurse prac.), and I've decided that yesterday HAS to be the beginning of the rest of my life. I need to make significant changes in my life. I'm starting the changes with food by throwing out the cake that is downstairs as soon as I finish this post. I'm tired of being sick and tired and lethargic and depressed. It's time for spring cleaning (even though it's winter, I know...). It's BEEN time for the past 5 years that I've said I was going to lose weight, but never have. I'm the heaviest I've been in all of my 18 years, and it's gotta go.

    I'm going from to !!!!
  • Good luck, Alex! I feel your pain...I've been starting and quitting a lot over the past 15 years or so. And each time I quit, my weight creeps up just a bit higher. I hope the forum helps keep you motivated...imagine how much better you'll feel next new year if you can make some positive changes in this one!! Good luck!!
  • Hi Alex!
Many of us can certainly understand what you're going through and how you feel - but you're back here with your priority helalh and not just a diet or a number, small changes can lead to great results, you can turn those test numbers around - the support you need is here - we'll all be here to cheer you on.

Glad to have you back with us! There are lots & lots of different groups and forums - I'm sure you'll find some that will keep you motivated and inspired - be sure to check out the Success stories are a definite must for motivation.

There are bunches of people here with more to lose and some with less - the bottom line is that we all have to do it a day at a time. The good thing is that we'll have lots of company along the way.

I've only been here since last fall, having NEVER been part of an online forum. What has been so eye-opening is how much it has helped me. Whenever I feel overwhelmed or defeated, I just log on and read some of the success stories, complete with their before & after photos - or read about others still dealing day to day with their challenges - and before I know it, the time has flown by and so have all the thoughts of going off track or giving up. It has made all the difference in my success so far.

So welcome back - you're in the right place - jump right back in by inspiring us and being inspired!

All the best - good luck with your goals,
    Lee

  • Yep! My story exactly. I have been on so many 'quick fix' rapid loss diets that I completely messed up my metabolism. I'm now under the care of my doctor and her team and I am losing weight steadily... slowly, but steadily. It isn't so much a diet, more a by product of a new life style.
  • welcome alex.. weve all been there..
i love this site just for that fact. feel free to ask and post questions we are all here to help ..
  • Welcome, Alex! I'm exactly the same as you, just a few years older.

I'm sure you know exactly how great this place is, so lets hope that we can keep each other focussed.
