Doctor say's "No Weights"

  • Had my annual stress test the other day , aced it and happy.

My doctor doesn't want me using weights, either hand or those
    I just bought for my ankles/walking. I have a heart condition,but
no problem for the follow up care, diet and medication.

I thought I read we need to do weights while exercising or we're
not going to lose our weight? Hope I read it wrong. Can anyone
tell me if I should be depressed about no weights or can just
substitute something else for the same effect the weights would
do? I've been doing WATPs with the 2 lb hand weights without a
problem, my Doctor said that's okay NO Weights for you.

Hope someone will help this exercise dummy who really and
truly wants to help herself make Life time and stay there. I do
also have a treadmill I can use if this will help.

Thanks for your suggestions/been there - done that help.
  • actually wearing ankle or wrist weights while exercising can be dangerous because you can strain or tear ligaments and tendons.

if your doctor doesn't want you to use weights at all, you should find out why. he should explain it to you. if he doesn't, get a second opinion. you should be informed about your medical care.

i would just keep up with your walking program and eating healthy. don't stress about the whole lifting weights issue; different people have different programs for healthy living, and this may be the kind for you for the time being.

    good luck
