Did I jump on a new band wagon?

  • I've noticed all the after New Year's commercials are about calories. Taco Bell talks about their menu under certain calories. KFC has the 395 calorie meal. Apple Bees has the under 550 calorie menu. Last year and in previous years it has been all about the low carb menus and the years before that it was all about the fat free menus.

So is calorie counting the new band wagon? Am I being trendy again?
  • That's a good question!! I didn't even think about that! I love counting calories too, so maybe we're just trend setters!!
  • I didn't know KFC had a 395 calorie meal.

    I want...
  • I love it. Yes, it seems that the actual calorie now counts again.

Yep. It's small, but that's good, right? It's two tiny pieces of chicken, green beans and mashed potatoes WITH gravy.

I grew up with fat free fads and low carb fads, so it's about time my generation learns about counting calories. (I'm 35 for the record)
  • Who knew. But after fat, carbswhat is left but calories, again. However with technology, counting calories is so much easier than in yester year.
  • Things always seem to cycle through...with calorie counting that is kinda a math thing...so really that can't change over the years... I even saw this calorie counting thing-a-ma-bob on QVC when I was clicking through the channels. I think it did everything but cook your food!
  • Works for me!
  • I believe monitoring intake is what is important. By having to face what one stuffs into one's face every day, whether counting calories or grams of whatever, you become aware of eating and your body and the sensation of fullness.

Many of us have eaten in oblivious states for so long that simply being present (and actually enjoying what we do eat) is a big key to not only losing weight but also for maintenance. Not than I'm an expert at maintenance (as you can tell), but studies on people who been able to keep weight off long term have found that continued monitoring of food intake is a key to success.
  • I really hope everyone hops onto this new bandwagon since sometimes its a real pain to find nutrition info lol!

Yeah, no kidding! Eating out is really difficult. I wish all recipe books carried nutritional information too. Heck, I wish my old family recipes had nutritional counts! I need to figure out a way to accomplish this.
  • Eliana- You can go to sparkrecipes.com and click on the recipe calculator. Then you just put in the entire recipe and how many servings it is and it figures it all out for you Love that thing!
