A scale issue..what do you guys think?

  • Hey guys! I am psyched to say that I just came home for winter break! I'll be home for a whole month.

Problem is...I forgot my scale at school!

I love my trusty tanita scale!!

I got on my mom's scale this morning, and it weighed me at 187. I'm pretty positive her scale is off, because my scale weighed me in at 190 two days ago, and since then I have done nothing that would warrent me losing 3 pounds...I have had two okay days. Not great, not terrible, just average days, without exercising.

What should I do? I could be up to like 4 pounds off here...
  • I would just figure her scale is off and remember what my "starting" weight was on your mom's. Then if when you get back to school you really did drop 3lbs already, then SURPRISE!
  • I guess I would just keep it in mind that it's off, and instead watch the overall trend on that scale. Cuz if you lose weight while at home, you should still see that. Just remember when you get back it might not be as awesome as it appears on your mom's scale.
  • I used to have this issue alot. Just do what the other gals said and take it in stride. A loss at the end of the week on her scale will still be a loss on your own when you get back to school.
  • i would do pretty much the same- just use it to see if you are going down or up, and then see what your own scale says when you get back
  • I'd assume it's 3 lbs lower than yours, and add those 3 to whatever numbers you get on her scale for now. And maybe when you get back to school you find out some of that was a real loss and you're pleasantly surprised!
  • Do you have any hand weights laying around? you could pop a three or 4 pound weight on the scale to see how much it's off by. It won't do much, but at least you'll know exactly how much it is off.
  • Lol, I gotta admit, I had to sit there for a minute and figure out what the **** putting a hand weight on the scale would help me to figure out! Haha I get it now though, and I think that's a great idea. maybe I'll do that...I'm pretty sure my other scale is right on so that might help.
  • So I checked the scale...it is exactly right!!! So MY scale has been wrong all along! And i've been into the 180's for a couple weeks now!!!

    WOOHOO!!
  • Haha -- best possible resolution!! Congrats!
  • Yay! I'm glad that helped you out. And congrats on being in the 180s!
  • Congrats on getting into the 180's. Yah scales can be trippy. I use my scale and my scale only when it comes to tracking my weight. At the doctors Im usually 4-5lbs heavier then at home so I just use the one at home because Im on it daily. Amazon.com has good digital scales that are pretty decent prices. I cant remember the name of mine I think its Omoron but it tracks bodyfat% and weight based on height.
  • i don't really trust the number on a scale, i use it to track over all trends in weight gain or loss. I figure it can't be too off, but at the same time, i know it isn't exact.

    Congrats on the weight loss!
