50, animal lover, vegetarian and cancer survivor

  • Hi, y'all! After over two years of **** in my life, I find myself ready to focus on getting ME back. I'm heavier than I've ever been and my joints are telling me it's time to get to work. I'm 50 and used to be active, but I'm finding so many things hard now. I've also been a vegetarian for 13 years, but my fondness for sweets and starches went unchecked while I cared for family members and battled breast cancer. I know what to do...I just am having trouble doing it. How do you all motivate yourselves?
  • Welcome to 3FC.

Try looking through our Goal and Mini Goals section

Good luck with your own goals.

  • Welcome
Welcome...welcome....congrats on all you have conquered so far to get here. If you can beat breast cancer...girl you can do this!

Right there with ya! I just found out at the doc yesterday that I am actually 230...;( and now need to change my ticker to show a necessary 85 lb loss to get to goal.

I'm looking for a mini challenge between Thanksgiving and Christmas to spark my motivation...you game?

    Have a great day!
  • HI Katmommy,

Congratulations on this great things you have already assomplished. Beating breast CA is so great.

I am a member of the 50+ site. Great bunch of people and so supportive. We just had one challenge and are starting another one, so come on over and check us out. I joined the +50 site because it's just a little harder for us to lose. Not that we can't, just takes a bit longer. I wanted to be part of a group that understood that.

Look forward to seeing you there
  • Hi Katmommy!
I can certainly relate to taking care of others before yourself- it's now your turn - treat yourself with the same care and love as you did your family members - with your determination and can-do attitude, there's nothing you can't do - good luck with your goals - we're all here to cheer you on!

Glad to have you join us! There are lots & lots of different groups and forums - I'm sure you'll find some that will keep you motivated, inspired and entertained! You'll also find info and first hand advice on different plans to help get through the ups and downs.

There are bunches of people here with more to lose and some with less - the bottom line is that we all have to do it a day at a time. The good thing is that we'll have lots of company along the way.

I've only been here a few months myself, having NEVER been part of an online forum. What has been so eye-opening is how much it has helped me. Whenever I feel overwhelmed or defeated, I just log on and read some of the success stories, complete with their before & after photos - or read about others still dealing day to day with their challenges - and before I know it, the time has flown by and so have all the thoughts of cheating or giving up.

So welcome - you've found the right place - join in by inspiring us and being inspired!
