  • Just got this in a company newsletter - http://cspinet.org/new/200911182.html

I mean, I knew movie theater stuff was bad for you, but I didn't realize it was that bad. I thought it was really interesting the way they compared it to other foods - like, I would so much rather have an actual steak and potato than a bag of Reese's Pieces!
  • Wow! I wonder if the popcorn here in Britain is just as bad? We don't have 'toppings' or anything and usually the popcorn tastes of very little! They're probably too cheap to use a lot of it... Would be interesting to find out!
  • Ugh. And this is why I opt for the child's size stuff or just go without.
  • is it sad that I was most shocked by the price? $12 for a medium popcorn and soda? Really?
I just never eat at movie theaters. Or if I do, I bring in my own food. There is just no way to justify one "snack" with more than a days worth of calories and fat
  • I generally buy a pretzle and a diet soda if I go to a movie....and yeah it's still not the GREATEST thing for you....but I figure it's safer then the buttery yummy popcorn...and I love pretzles.

Generally, I don't try to calculate it into my daily points, I just pretend I didn't eat it...lol

Once though, I popped a couple bags of Orville Reddinbockers 94% fat free butter popcorn...which isn't too terrible...put it in a couple of gallon ziploc bags and stuffed it in my purse and brought it into the movie. It was split between 4 people, and the other girl with us snuck in bottled water....so we didn't have to pay for the rediculously overpriced food at the movies, and I didn't have to feel bad about eating it. =D
  • OMG !!! I had no idea! I always get the popcorn because I figured it wasn't that bad- most popcorn isnt. Holy crap- never again!
  • Definitely makes you think about what you put in your mouth. Not worth the calories. I wish they would do plain popcorn with no buttery flavored toppings and serve it with cool seasonings. I found this seasoning that is lime and chili that I love on popcorn. Much tastier than buttered popcorn. Then again, I have never liked the taste or smell of butter, so I have never been tempted by movie theater popcorn.
  • I absolutely LOVE movie theater popcorn. I get enticed by the smell of it every time I walk into the movie theater, and I go to the movies A LOT. But since I have started weight watchers 4 weeks ago, I have only had it once!! I have started to bring in my own food to the movie theater. I bring in the baked tostitos and salsa. It totals to around 5 points (250 calories), but I know it is better than the 1200+ calories from the popcorn that I just love.

either that or our theaters offer frozen yogurt, which is really good!
  • my mouth is like open wide! OMG I never even knew!!!!
