Here I go - Medifast Day 1 on 11/2

  • Our (DH and I) MF shipment came last week and we planned on starting Nov. 1st - but halloween and laying new floors got in the way

So, here is to day 1! Honestly, I binged a lot last week to the point that I gained a pound. I weighed in this morning at 160.0 and vow never to weigh that again!

Breakfast: the chocolate mint bar, my rating: GOOD... will definitely purchase more of them and a coffee with creamer (I'm not giving up my one coffee with my favorite creamer... it's my treat for the day and with 4 kids 4 years old and younger in my care (three of them are mine) - I NEED it )

Late snack/lunch: a quarter of the bag of Nacho cheese puffs and a smores bar. my rating: could easily do without the puffs - but they are a nice option to have and I like the smores bar ALOT, more-so than the chocolate mint bar. Note to self, I shouldn't wait so long between breakfast and lunch!

Honestly, I'm scared to try the soups yet and will probably stick with the bars, puffs, a shake and oatmeal today.

Any tips with the soups... how are they? and is there a 'best practice' for preparing them?

Thanks for all the encouragement and I will plan on starting a blog soon!
  • Hi!
This is my day one as well. I am restarting the program after almost 2 years off. I only did the program one month then found myself pregnant... The creamy chicken soup, I make bread out of. The chili is ok but need some spice...
Just an FYI, you are only supposed to eat ONE bar a day... and be aware that if you go without the bar, you will lose weight faster

Only 1 bar...eek - I had 3 today! I need to read the manual a little closer or watch the DVD. I think my DH and I should do that tonight. Thanks for the tip!

Today, I've eaten the choc. mint bar, carmel crunch bar, smores bar and chili nacho puffs and my lean & green... I think I'll try the banana pudding tonight while watching the DVD.
  • I just read the Quick Start Guide and found this, "Medifast Crunch bars (in the yellow package) are completely interchangeable with other Medifast Meals,
so you can enjoy up to five a day on the 5 & 1 Plan. Limit yourself to one Medifast Maintenance Bar (in the green package) each day."

The bars I ate today are the Medifast Crunch bars... I'm not ready for maintenance bars yet

I'm not feeling so guilty now
  • Ideally, 3 mf bars should be your max, ideally 2 per day.

For the soups, the chicken noodle and beef stew are pretty good.
I microwave for 3 mins, add some Wyler's "Better Than Bouillon" 1/4 tsp or so and maybe a little garlic salt to the beef stew. Badia makes a gourmet spice group that has a poultry seasoning that is fantastic for grilling chicken and for either of the chicken soups (chicken & wild rice & chicken noodle are good). After adding the bouillon, back in the micro for 1 min, then cover & let stand for at least 5 minutes. I have at least one bowl of soup per day, usually two if I'm home.

Wait til you try the pretzels!

    Keep Looking Up!

Thank you for the spice recommendations! My husband finds the soup to be good... and your suggestions sound great. I was curious, I like to soak the soup overnight or in the morning for at least 2 to 4 hours. At this point, if the soup has been soaking... should I just add the spice and the microwave for a few minutes without the need to "let it sit" - or should I still let it sit as part of the process?
  • The meat, veggies and other ingredients need to rehydrate - so if you're letting them soak overnight, there's no need to wait - just heat & eat. I like to get the spices in for the last minute of cooking to help them infuse better, but you can add them when you're done or after soaking. Have fun experimenting!

    Keep Looking Up!
